How to Unlock Bootloader of Moto E Android Phone – Guide

Moto E Android smartphone is the newest android smartphone which comes with awesome features at an affordable price tag. While we have also been hearing that very soon Moto E will be getting the KitKat 4.4.3 Android OS, let’s check out on how you can unlock the boot loader. After checking out the list of quick pre requisites, we will be slipping into the procedure which will help you unlock the boot loader.

Quick Pre Requisites:

  • All the data in your MOTO E Android phone should be backed up with the help of below mentioned steps and not automatically with any other tools.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – 
Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – 
Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Head over to the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” in your Moto E so as to enable the USB Debugging Mode. Battery charge left in your device needs to be a minimum of 80% or else device might get turn off in the middle of rooting.
  • Download the Android SDK in your computer and install the same. Additionally, you will also have to install the Motorola USB drivers.

Procedure to Root MOTO E Android Smartphone:

  • First up you need to enter your device in the Fastboot mod which can be done by Powering off and press the power + volume down buttons simultaneously.
  • In your desktop, you need to open the command prompt and to the directory where you installed the Android SDK tools (or make sure fastboot is in your $PATH).
  • In the command prompt, you need to type in the below mentioned command;

$ fastboot oem get_unlock_data

The returned string will be used to retrieve the unlock key and the returned string in your desktop will somewhat be looking like;

$ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
(bootloader) 0A40040192024205#4C4D3556313230
(bootloader) 30373731363031303332323239#BD00

On a Mac OS Desktop, the returned string format would be

INFO0000000

  • Now you need to paste the 5 lines of output into one continuous string without the boot loader or “INFO” or the white spaces. Your string needs to look like this:

0A40040192024205#4C4D355631323030373731363031303332323239#BD008A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F951A3E5#1F532800020000000000000000000000

Note: If at all your Moto E gets in the boot loop sequence then you need to turn off the device and then reapply the update from the start. To turn off you can reinsert the battery or say you can long press the power button.
