How to Update Galaxy R I9103 with Official ICS Android 4.0.4 Firmware

Procedure to Update Galaxy R I9103 with Official ICS XWLP2 Android 4.0.4 Firmware:

  • Download the XWLP2 ICS 4.0.4 Firmware Package and Odin from here to your computer. Once downloaded, extract both the zip files preferably to your desktop and Open ODIN in your computer.
  • Up next, turn off your Galaxy R I9103 device so that it can be entered in the download mode. Download Mode in Galaxy R I9103 can be entered by pressing the Volume Down rocker key + power button at the same time while the device is turned Off. If the device starts in the normal mode, you need to re try the process of the entering the device into the download mode.
  • Once the device enters in the Download Mode, connect your device to the computer with the help of original USB cable and click on “PDA” in Odin to select the tar file which you got after extracting the XWLP2 firmware. Ensure that the ID : COM section in Odin has turned yellow or else the firmware can’t be applied.
  • Click on “Start” for starting the process of firmware update. As soon as the firmware is updated successfully, the Galaxy R will be rebooted. It will take around 4 – 5 minutes for rebooting the device. Please note that it may take longer time than expected for applying the update.

Note: If the device gets into the boot loop sequence or say gets stuck in the welcome screen, just re insert the battery and re follow the above instructions so as to again follow the above mentioned instructions.

    Hey Pradeep. Thanks for this.

    Some observations:
    1. To go into download mode i had to press Volume Down rocker key + power button + Home key all at the same time.
    2. During the upgrade process my phone went into “upgrading-media-database” for quite some time (40 mins) making me very nervous :). I thought it must be due to the large music database i had on the SD card and decided to pull the SD card out even while the phone is hooked onto my laptop via the USB cable. Little did I realize that in the process of opening case the phone will get disconnected from the USB cable. USB got disconnected and lo behold ICS upgrade got completed. Now i do not know if this was due to me pulling out the cable and media DB indexing abruptly stopping or if it was because the indexing coincidentally got over at the same time!My advise to people before starting the upgrade, move media files to SD card or backup and remove SD card from the phone.
    3. Post upgrade the phone got rebooted, all seemed well, but mails from my office (MS active sync) on the mail client were just not visible! The trick was to change font size from the default Normal to either small or large and suddenly the mails became visible. Was able to go back to Normal without issues.

    Else all seems well.

    Cheers.
