How to Update Galaxy Nexus with Latest AOKP Build 40 Custom ROM Firmware
Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphones which are rooted and installed with the clock work mod recovery image can now be easily installed with the latest AOKP build 40 firmware. Over a period of time, the AOKP builds are fastly catching up with other famous custom ROMs like Parandroid, Cyanogen mod etc. In the last few days, we have checked on many custom ROM firmwares which you can install in your Galaxy nexus smartphone. Since this firmware is still in the making, there will be some minor bugs, but most of the things have been addressed and will be further optimized in the coming days to come. AOKP is an abbreviation for Android Open KANG Project which has a team of developers who works harder to optimize the custom ROM firmware.
Disclaimer: This update should only be applied to the devices which have the device model name as Galaxy Nexus. This should not be applied to the NETWORK LOCKED version of Galaxy Nexus. This AOKP build is not an Official firmware released by Samsung Electronics but is a custom ROM firmware released by AOKP team. As per our sources, very soon AOKP team will be coming up with the Jellybean 4.1 firmware based custom ROM firmwares. We will soon be covering the same in the coming days as in when these comes out.
Note: if your device is network locked, then you can apply this update but it needs to be boot loader unlocked. Once the boot loader is unlocked, the warranty will get void which can ONLY be reclaimed by applying the factory firmware.

Before proceeding you need to ensure that your Galaxy nexus is rooted, installed with Clock Work mod recovery image. Just in case if your device is not installed with the Clock work mod recovery but is rooted, then download and install the “ROM MANAGER” app from Google PLAY Store to flash the clock work mod recovery in your Galaxy Nexus device. In the process of firmware update, the data will be lost. So, it’s better to back up the same with the help of below steps. Ensure that all the target files after taking backup are copied to your computer or else these back up files too will be wiped Off from your phone.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log –Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Ensure that a minimum of 50% battery charge is left in the device or else device will be turned Off in the middle of firmware update. Also, enable the USB Debugging mode in your Galaxy nexus from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked.
