Let’s head to the next step where we have mentioned a detailed tutorial on how you can apply with this firmware update.

Procedure to Update Galaxy S II with Official Jellybean 4.1.2 Firmware Update:

  • Download the Complete Official Jellybean 4.1.2 Package & Odin from here to your computer to extract the same. Once extracted, open odin in your computer and turn Off your device so that it can be entered in the download mode.
  • Download mode in Galaxy S II GT I9100 can be entered by pressing Volume down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button after which a green robot will be shown indicating the Download Mode has been entered.
  • Open Odin in your computer. Connect your device to the computer with the help of original USB cable and then you will see that the ID : COM Section will turn Yellow. Just in case if the odin refuses to turn Yellow, you will then have to install the required drivers by removing unknown drivers in USB section and reboot the system once. Preferably you can install the Samsung KIES to get rid of this issue from Samsung.com/KIES.
  • Now, open Odin in your computer and then click on “PDA” to select “” and then click on “start” to start the process of firmware update. As soon as the firmware is updated, the device will be rebooting and then once you see the home screen, you can remove the connected USB and follow the on screen instructions.
  • To check on whether the firmware has been successfully updated or not, head over to the path “Settings > About Phone” where the current firmware will be mentioned as Jellybean 4.1.2 XWLS8. Very soon we will be coming out with an article which will help you root the device.

Note: Just in a rare case if the device doesn’t boot up or show the home screen then remove the battery and reinsert the same to boot the device again in the normal mode.

So, there you go, you have now successfully learnt on how to apply the latest Jellybean 4.1.2 firmware dubbed as XWLS8 in your Galaxy S II I9100 smartphone. Do keep us posted in the comments section just in case if you face any issues as we will try to address the same as soon as possible.

  10. Is this official jelly bean update for samsung galaxy s2???

  11. Hi pradeep, Thank you for the updates. I did tried it and it was successful but there is no multi screen options, polaris office is missing and my galary is not at all opening.
It says it needs enough space to open the galary and asking me to delete some files for tht. But my system storage is 1.16GB occupied out of 1.97GB and USB storage is just 3.01GB out of 11.5GB. Please help.

  12. Hi, my S2 (GT-I9100 international model unlocked) is currently running on Android 2.3.5 (GINGERBREAD.ZSKI3). Can I directly upgrade to official Jellybean 4.1.2 or do I need to upgrade to an intermediate release first ? thanks.

  13. Works, if you follow the steps :)

  14. Does it have Turkish support?

    • I’ve just flashed my i9100. It supported Turkish language from the beginning and installation messages were in Turkish too. By default Turkish dictionary was not installed, but I installed it during startup process. Swype is better than previous version. I hadn’t move any application to SD memory since moving applications causes problems when updating the OS and I need to reinstall aplications in SD memory. (If I had, I would move them back before installing new OS.) So I didn’t experience any problems about my installed applications. Even my customized wallpaper, screen lock pattern, SMS messages, phone directory, wifi settings were unchanged, buy all main screen application shortcuts and widgets were gone.
Overall, 4.1.2 seems to be better than 4.0.3 and the installation was very smooth.
If I experience any problems later, I will add another comment.

  18. Hi Pradeep ,

I have with me Galaxy GT-I9100 that i had bought in Saudi Arabia . There has been no Upgrade to a higher version OS and currently it is Android version 2.3.5 Build Number GINGERBREAD.JPKJ2 Baseband version I9100XXKI4 Arabia . I would like to upgrade my OS to Jellybean 4.1.2.
Can you advise if i should go for it .Since i have been waiting for the Samsung to offer it for long but still no hope here.
    Appreciate your advise

  19. The article doesn’t mention if the wipe cache is required or not. Also this step doesn’t talk about selecting the downloaded file in the PDA section.

“Now, open Odin in your computer and then click on “PDA” to select “” and then click on “start” to start the process of firmware update.”

  20. the answer to my own question seems to be NO.
After installing the firmware, I get prompted for a code to unlock the network. Since I don’t have such a code, nor should I have one, I am unable to connect to any cell phone network and am unable to make any calls.
    Please advise.

  34. I can not update my galaxy s2 from ginger to ice cream sandwich..when i try to update it required firm ware..any there plz giuide me.

  35. Is this for India..??

    • yes it can be applied to Indian phones

    • depends which version of the SGS2 you have, there was an i9100G version, which used a different processor, not Samsung’s Exynos SOC.

So, you better double check before you brick your phone.
