I have update the new version of ics in samsung galaxy s2, many of functions not working well,
and the video clarity was dull.

I suggest don’t upgrade this firmware.
    There are many bugs.

Hi Pradeep, this is very disappointing that you said this will be the official update. But as the official update is released by Samsung in India now, my phone still says it can not be upgraded via Kies as the phone is not supported.
You should not have said that this is the official version.

How do I recover my paid and free downloaded apps after a restore? I’m kind of sorry I updated to Ice Cream Sandwich from Gingerbread. Other than the bigger clock visibility on the face page, I’ve been having nothing but weird troubles, phone shutting down, lost apps. Will I ever get my apps back without repaying for them? No more “wiping/resetting” for me, I’m afraid.

    April 22, 2012 at 1:35 pm

I upgraded my phone with these steps and my phone is working very fine in the first shot without any trouble. YAY!!! Thanks. 🙂

The scrolling in ICS is very weird. When I am just trying to scroll normally the screen pauses for a split second and then it flicks very fast as if its trying to scroll page by page. Is this natural in ICS? I didnt find any settings for changing the scrolling behavior.

    Any comments?

i have updated my phone to this version when it came out and it looks a bit better then gingerbread, but i expected something extraordinary(due to the hussle that was made about ICS). It surely looks better and the biggest positive change i believe is the task manager and ability to move between tasks. The only bug i noticed untill now is that sometimes when you try to call a contact by swiping to the right, it stucks and screen goes black for 10-15 sec. Hope on the next update this issue gets fixed! thanks for the hard work you’re doing guys!

The one that used to show up under file manager as a place for file storage on Gingerbread. It was called “usbStorage”. That folder is no longer there. It was useful as it was often excluded from the gallery.

I’m looking forward to your next ICS upgrade. This upgrade is no better than the gingerbread 2.3.5 i was using. Now my battery life is worse and my 3g/4g reception is worse. The menues and GUI in ICS are annoying so far, with exception of taskmanager. This ICS on my SGS2I9100 is causing twitter to freeze, internet browser to crash and causing issues with my “back” button. It doesn’t register then gets backed up after several clicks. I’m also having difficulty managing notification sounds and several apps are not compatable yet: such as GO SMS, Handscent and a few banking apps. Disappointed in ICS so far :(. But as always pradeep your tutorial and files work good.

i just updated my SGS2 to ICS and its working fine.. but just after i updated the firmware thru ODIN my phone restarted automatically and it started working fine with the latest firmware so i didnt goto the RECOVERY MODE to perform “Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe Cache partition”
so my question is if this last step (recovery mode) is important or not.. and now if i do “Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe Cache partition” so will it delete my data???

    thanks in advance

Great firmware update. Migrated from 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Everything working flawlessly & smoothly except for two things. Bluetooth gives problems (dsnt detect or dsnt pair) when i try exchanging stuff with older model of phones & wi-fi needs polishing too. Besides that, a fine update giving more juice per charge.

Hi everyone. can anybody help me.
I’ve upgraded my phone from this update about 2 weeks ago. Now the update already arrives for my country. The question is, should i stick with this firmware upgrade from EU? Are the firmware from each country the same? What are the pro’s and con’s of sticking with this firmware over the firmware that is already available for my country. BTW im from Philippines.
    Thanks guys..

its working perfectly in my SGS2..
but i have one question… is it necessary to perform “Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe Cache partition”??? because as soon as the phone updated it automatically restarted and started working fine, so now is it necessary to go in the Recovery mode and Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe Cache partition as i missed this step??????

    thanks in advance..

  87. Jason

    March 16, 2012 at 12:17 pm

I have also noticed the battery draining a bit faster than previous firmwares; although this might be because ICS has additional features which probably add a bit more of a strain to the system.

In addition to that, I’m also having the problem of some applications randomly freezing and restarting (eg: whatsapp) when they didn’t before. Also my touch screen glitches with swype beta (non-stock swype) where the touch pad doesn’t respond or register between the first and second letter that I swype.

Will there be another ICS update (official or unofficial) soon? Or should I roll back to 2.3.6?

    • Dustin

      March 21, 2012 at 1:04 am

@Jason, i’m thinking the same thing, although i don’t want to roll back and then have pradeep release a sweet ICS upgrade. I was on GB 2.3.6 and now my battery life is worse, worse reception, and just overall glitchiness. Let me know if you hear if an upgrade is out soon, otherwise i’m rolling back too.. 🙁

Updated 2 days ago. Finding the UI much cleaner over 2.3.5 XWKI8.

    Issues I’m finding so far:

    1. Battery drainage is bad. The battery is drained nearly 20% overnight while the phone is in standby.

    2. Auto screen brightness does not appear to work.

    March 15, 2012 at 12:31 pm

Many Thanks for the update, been waiting for ages for it now.

I’m still quite new to this, but what is the significance of doing the Factory Wipe and Cache Wipe after installing the ROM. On my S2 I installed the ROM and the phone appears to be working fine with all my original settings and programs still intact. I’d prefer not to have to start sorting out all my apps, etc again. So I was wondering if doing the Factory Wipe and Cache Wipe is something that I really need to do.

Also i notice that Facebook doesnt appear to sync with my contact list? is this normal , are we just waiting for an update?

I just rooted my Galaxy s2 and ICS is running

I wonder why I have to do this step below

Now, re insert the battery and enter the device in the recovery mode. To enter into the recovery mode, you need to turn Off your device so that you can enter your device in the Download Mode. Download mode can be entered by pressing Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button ……

I find it funny reading some of the comments on here, if people would just follow everything you say they would have no problem. Well done, i just have a correction in the last part u say “Now, re insert the battery and enter the device in the recovery mode. To enter into the recovery mode, you need to turn Off your device so that you can enter your device in the Download Mode. Download mode can be entered by pressing Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.”, but i think it should be “Now, re insert the battery and enter the device in the recovery mode. To enter into the recovery mode, you need to turn Off your device so that you can enter your device in the recovery mode. recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume Up Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.”

    Works great thanks

So far so good looks stable. Wish it didn’t have Samsungs Touchwiz though. Maybe I’ll download SPB 3D Shell to make it look more modern.

Thanks for putting this up quickly Neela.

    March 14, 2012 at 10:00 am

    In the procedure you provide:

// Click on the below mentioned option in Odin by clicking on the corresponding tab which is “PDA”. All the files can be found in the extracted file. Once the above mentioned files are selected, you now need to click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update.

    PDA – I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5

Now, re insert the battery and enter the device in the recovery mode…..//

Excuse me, but there is no step before this instructing us to remove the battery. So what is meant by “re insert battery” – Or do you mean we should remove the battery and reinsert once before entering the device in recovery mode?

    Works good.

Still on Touchwiz 4.0 wish it was the stock icecream launcher.

Nothing change in cosemetics though under the hood it has become swift, lock screen music controls have changed.

11% juice drain in 2 hrs with 3g enabled.

    Rest have to check.

    March 14, 2012 at 5:59 am

Obviously no one using Static settings as no one has reported if it works or not. If this is the final its pretty lame…. looks like I will be sticking to GB then. Hopefully either this is just me being very stupid or something that will be fixed soon. Tried everything and will not save IP and dns settings.. Maybe a 3rd party app will sort it but that’s not the point.

Hi just a quick question what is the purpose behind doing the wipe after the install, currently the phone seems to be running fine.

  170. Jay

    March 14, 2012 at 1:14 am

Hi everyone, quick question I just followed the advice from the xda developer site, i.e. using the single file option

    Extract the firmware
    Open the included Odin
Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
    Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
    Then finally click START!

Is it necessary to do the wipe afterwards? My phone as it is seems to be running fine.

        @Neela Pradeep,
it means its not official firmware for other countries. or the galaxy s2 rakes it as a custom rom for us?

    • Aishwarya Jain

      March 14, 2012 at 1:13 am

@naveed, This version though official has not been released in India region so the KIES does not support it. This is Korean version we are installing on our international version of GT 9100.

      • naveed

        March 14, 2012 at 11:12 am

        Many thanks Neela and Aishwarya,

I got this GT-I9100 for UK unlock. I have updated it from India following above steps.

Now I am facing 2 problem (PLEASE ADVICE)

        1) First I have updated my GT-I9100 to “How to Update Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with Latest XXLPJ ICS 4.0.3 Firmware” Since then phone does not recognise SD card.

I thought After updating to official firmware it might work. Did all the basic troubleshooting ( Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe Cache partition) still No luck, even though GT-I9100 is working great.

        2) As said earlier cannot connect to Kies (Ver MAC.

        Appreciate any kind of support.

Once again thanks for your immediate responce.

          March 14, 2012 at 11:38 am

    • Aishwarya Jain

      March 14, 2012 at 1:11 am

@Ziad, Do not update on GT 9000 or Galaxy S. The phone will get bricked forever. The firmware is for GT 9100 only.

      • Dustin

        March 29, 2012 at 1:33 pm
