This is the manual way of updating the firmware and if you are on the custom ROM firmware or say on any other beta firmware then you will be easily able to upgrade the firmware. This new ICS firmware comes with many new add on features along with a whole new layout of ICS. Please note that this process of firmware update will only support T989 model and not any other models.

Pre Requisites:

  • Back up all the user level data present in your device with the help of below mentioned instructions. Don’t use KIES to back up the data as it may or may not support the device after the update. SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call LogCall Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • You will have to enable the USB Debugging Mode from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. Ensure that the USB Debugging option is enabled. A minimum of 50% battery should be there in your phone so as to make sure that it doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
