Galaxy SL I9003 LogoSamsung Galaxy SL I9003 users can now update with an all new firmware version dubbed as XXLE4, this firmware update ropes in the goodness of Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware. This firmware fixes all the bugs related to the camera and also fixes bugs pertaining to the Google PLAY Store wherein some of the apps were getting force closed. Please note that this firmware is officially released in Russia but can be used across all the devices around the Globe as this is a universal firmware and not a country specific firmware. We have no clue as of now on by when the OTA will be available of this update, but you don’t need to wait for the same as we will help you to update the device manually.

Disclaimer: We should not be held liable for any damage caused in the process of updating Samsung Galaxy SL I9003. It is very unlikely that your device will be damaged if you follow all the instructions to the point which are mentioned in procedure.

The best part of this firmware is that this is not a custom ROM firmware or say the beta firmware, so the bugs which will be there will be very minimum. In the due course of this update process article we will be checking out on what are the pre requisites you need to follow along with a detailed procedure on how to apply this update.

Over a period of this update process since the data needs to be wiped and cache needs to be cleared, you need to back up all the data present in your device so that the data can be restored after applying the update To help you better, you can make use of below steps so as to manually back up the same. Don’t use KIES to back up the data as it won’t detect the update since it’s not yet rolled out to all countries.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log –Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Disable / uninstall all the security suites installed in your computer as these tools interrupt the firmware update process. Also, most importantly enable the KIES Mode in your device from the path “Settings > Wireless & Network > USB Settings > Samsung KIES”. Ensure that the Samsung KIES Mode is enabled. Also, enable the USB Debugging Mode from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.

KIES in your computer should be the latest version as it will ensure that all the drivers are installed properly in your computer to facilitate this update.

So assuming that you have followed all the above mentioned instructions, you can now proceed to the next page where we have summed up a detailed guide on how to apply this firmware update.

I have 2 days experience with Android, so Hello to everybody from the community!

I bought a second hand phone Samsung Galaxy SL GT-i9003.

It has Firmware 2.2.1., Baseband version I9003XXKB3, Kernel version root@sep-35 #1, Build number FROYO.XXKB3.
When I type *#1234# I get the following information: PDA: I9003XXKB3, PHONE: I9003XXKB3, CSC: I9003SERKB3, Build Info: Thu Feb 24 16:12:12 KST 2011.

I’m experiencing problems with the camera: I managed to capture 1 image, but after that when I try to use the camera I see only black screen. When I try to capture an image I receive a message: “Sorry! The application Camera (process has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force close”. I also experience a great lag in homescreen menu, in web browser and in general.

I did Factory data reset from the phone menu and after that the phone was much faster and I could take another picture with it. Then the camera stopped working again and the phone started to lag.

After all this intro, my questions are this:
    1. It seems like the fw is very old, but is it the stock one or somebody has manually updated to KB3? In this relation, is my phone root? I installed ConnectBot and Superuser apps. In ConnectBot i see a “$”. When I type “su” I get this: “su: permission denied”.
    2. I want to update to XXLE4 2.3.6 but can I do it directly from my current fw if I follow strictly the procedure here?
    3. Do I need an sd card for this procedure?
    4. My RAM is ~350 MB in use with few app on and to 478 MB it’s not much free space, so is the new update going to make any improvement on this? Is the free RAM what makes the phone run smooth?

Sorry for the long writing and the silly question! I’m reading a lot, but there’s so much info, so it’ll take me years to make it for this update alone. I really don’t want to brick my phone, so I’m veeery careful what I do; I’m not rushing.

Please, try to answer my questions!

The GUI gives an ICS feel and this update has added Face unlock too(Settings->Location and Security->Set screen lock->Face recognition). But dont know why(could be this firmware or an incompatible/mischeivous app), after each reboot henceforth, it is sending an sms(with phone IMEI details) to a fixed contact(sms is received, charged are deducted but its not logged in message list)
