Galaxy S I9000

How to Update Galaxy S with Stable & Stunning ICS 4.0.4 Beta 10 Firmware

Procedure to Update Galaxy S GT I9000 with ICS Android 4.0.4 Firmware:

  • Assuming that you have downloaded the ICS IMM76D build package from here to your computer, you now need to connect your phone to computer with the help of original USB cable and place the zip file in the device’s SD Card.
  • Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the device and once placed, remove the connected USB cable and turn Off your device so that it can be entered in the recovery mode.

  • Enter the recovery mode in your Galaxy S GT I9000 by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to turn ON your device. Once you enter into the recovery mode, you need to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache which is there in your device.
  • Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” > “ICS IMM76D 4.0.4 build Zip package”. It may take up to 10 minutes to process the update file.

recovery mode

  • As soon as the update is applied successfully, the phone will again land up in the recovery mode where you need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” and then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.

For Users Facing Force Close Errors:

  • Turn off your device so that it can then be entered in the recovery mode.
  • In recovery mode select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache after which select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select “reboot system now” which will restart the Galaxy S.

So there you go, you have now successfully applied the update of the latest ICS Android 4.0.4 IMM76D Firmware in your Galaxy S GT I9000. Do share with us in the comments section just in case if you face any issues as we will try our level best to sort out the same at the earliest.

    Hi,

I am on ICS 4.0.3 (update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-GalaxyS-KANG-BUILD16-signed), JVT, can I update to this build, or do I have to go back to JVU first?

    • John

      May 14, 2012 at 6:30 pm

This is Elite’s IMM76l and it’s a beta with a few issues. Do a search for Elite IMM76K RC1.2 it’s the latest build, most stable and smoothest rom out there. Always start with JVU when coming from another CUSTOM rom.

I tried flashing this ROM (and others like CM9, Dark Knight) on my SGS i9000 but after boot up, the phone is unable to detect the network. By entering *#*#4636#*#* on the phone, I discovered even the IMEI number is shown as unknown, I also tried flashing separate radio but in vain. Finally I had to revert back to 2.3.6 XXJW4.

    Any idea about this issue?

    Neela,

Time for an update to IMM76l v11.0.

  16. John

    April 28, 2012 at 3:56 am

This is the Elite ROM IMM76D, but there’s a v10.1 and just yesterday v11.0 came out. Do a search (Elite IMM76l) and follow instructions best to start with JVU.

For those who get into a bootloop, it’s not uncommon. You have to get back into recovery again (3 button combo) and re-flash it a 2nd time. It happened to me when upgraging from other than JVU re-partitioned. If you installed many different roms and have a lot of crap on your sd card, save what you need and reformat it, the flash JVU re-partition and start over. I came from a perfect JW4 and this ROM is by far the best rom out there. There are many ways to customize it as well, again do a search.

      April 28, 2012 at 4:00 am

You can try, but it might end up being a bit buggy, best to use JVU, less headaches and troubleshooting later on.

    hi neela,

i have updated this ROM, the update is applied successfully. But the Phone did nt boot in the recovery mode again. i manually booted it in recovery mode and did wipe data and wipe cache.

      April 24, 2012 at 5:56 pm

hi, neela i tried several times but vain!!!

then i tried with Dark Kight, that too given same problem it was struck on the Android start up screen. i did wipe data and cache before and after installation.

after several tries, some how i managed to install dark knight. But now i am facing some problems…
      1) Battery is getting dried soon
      2) Only the Android key board is working, unable to go for swype
      3) i disabled ‘Vibrate on touch’ but, it is still vibrates on keyboard entries.

      Please help, Thanks in advance.

When you do a factory reset/wipe data after installing this rom, it wipes the rom and you get the android and nothing happens. It’s different than the GB roms. You need to get back to recovery and re-flash the rom. When this happened to me I couldn’t get back into recovery with the 3 button combo. I had to start over with JVU again.

In order to resolve these issues like wifi triggering, sync issues and othera if any, follow these steps. i did it and ics 4.0.4 rom is working perfectly. after installing xxjvu firmware try to update ur phone from samsung apps. this will add push services and etc. make backup of these using “aapbackip and restore”. now install dark knight firmware 4.0.4 ics wiping all caches at first. now install this ics rom as “overwrite” on dark knight theme. restore updates and ur softwares from same. THIS WILL RESOLVE ALL YOUR ISSUES. NO WIFI AND SYNC ISSUES NOTHING.

I am on Android 4.0.3 Build 17 Firmware CyanogenMod version9.0.0. Can i update my SGS i900 straight to this ROM. I can read clearly of the instructions but got a bit confused if i really have to go back to XXJVU in which it was my last version before i got into android 4.0.3. I need your advise. Thanks a lot.
    With lots of respect.

    Hi Neel,
I am in Build number DDJV6 (firmware 2.3.3). I understand that I have to update to XXJVU and root it first. My question is will my phone be faster if I update to ICS ?

Nice Rom I must say, only trouble is:
    >No radio
    >Some apps crash, 3rd part apps that is

To flash with rom, you need google’s default apps to run. Learnt that the hard way!

    Hey

ROM seems pretty good.. No such faults as such.. battery life is reasonable, nothing exceptional !!

    1. When Google Apps are already installed what is the need of GApps again ?!?!! Dint get that part !!
    2. For the people who are getting stuck at the screen showign android ..Remove the battery…hold for 1 min..put battery back…and reinstall the ROM.. Keep patient.. It might take 3-4 tries till it finally comes..!

    Neela,
    1. im facing a problem in recovering my contacts.. *.vcf It doesnt show on my OI file manager.. But when i connect via USB it shows up..!! Any clue on how to go about with this !?
    2. How do i take screen shot ?! Non of the ways work..!

The Actualizodor is actually a good feature but confusing to use..!

Rest all is fine..! Switch off is really fast 😛 !!

    Hi Neela
Is there anyway of reverting from this ROM to JW4 or JVU?
I installed this one from Dark Knight after restoring factory settings, clearing cache and dalvik as well. After installing this rom the WIFI won’t work. I tried clearing the cache and dalvik cache but that seams to just brick my phone and from there I cant revert to JW4 or Dark knight, the only option that works is re-installing this ROM.
Appreciated any help you can give me
    Ido.

          April 15, 2012 at 10:50 pm

Guess this ROM and I were not meant to be friends, managed to revert to JVU from there changed to JW4 rooted it and installed the ROM. Now it doest even start just goes strait to a flashing android screen and stuck there. Maybe the problem is with JW4?!

          • ido

            April 15, 2012 at 11:15 pm

Its not the JW4, tried it with JWU same result. Guess there is just something I’m doing wrong. Too bad, when it did worked it looked good.

I need to temporarily switch back to Froyo 2.2 firmware but I couldn’t find an article that has the files (PIT, CSC, etc…) that I need for flashing it on ODIN. Do you know of any source where I can download the files I need? The ones I found online don’t work because mot are affiliated with megaupload or sites that are not working anymore. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance! 🙂

I had to look for another version of ICS when my phone stopped playing .avi files all of a sudden. I have yet to test every feature of this version but so far im very happy with it. I’d like to ask, though, how can I add widgets (wifi, brightness, screen rotate, GPS)on the notification bar? That’s what I liked about the Dark Knight 4.0.4 but it had some issues. This one has the toggle buttons on the screen but not on the notification bar. hope you can help me with this. Thanks!

    • anubhav

      April 13, 2012 at 11:49 am

that’s ‘notification power widget’ u re talking abt.. it’s also one of the main thinga I stick to cyanigen mod roms.. u can get similar thing via installing app like ‘power controls’ or ‘power widgets’ from market/play store..

      • jade
