How to Update Galaxy Tab 8.9 with Jellybean 4.1.1 based AOKP Firmware

AOKP LogoSamsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 i957 tablet can now be installed with the unofficial AOKP firmware as in the due course of this article we will be checking out on how you can easily apply this update without any issues. Unfortunately, there is still no clarity on by when there will be an official firmware update released by Samsung. All thanks to the XDA recognized dan-htc-touch developer form coming out with the Jellybean 4.1.1 based custom ROM firmware. Though this firmware which is an unofficial AOKP build is not an Official one released by Samsung, you can download and install the same on your rooted device as it comes with all the goodness of Jellybean 4.1 release.

Since this is a custom ROM firmware, you will have to make sure that your tablet is rooted which can be found from the “Root Checker” app from Google PLAY Store. You can anytime revert back to the original Stock firmware, note down the current firmware version from the path “Settings > About device” and then note down all the data.

You will have to manually and not with the KIES as KIES doesn’t detect the custom ROM firmwares.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Head over to the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging by selecting the appropriate option in your Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 i957 tablet. Also, make sure that the minimum charge left is 40% so as to make sure that tablet doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

So assuming that you are done with all the above mentioned instructions, you can now head over to the next step where we have summed up a detailed tutorial on how to apply this firmware update.

Can I conclude that if you install this Jellybean firmware then all your current Android/Samsung apps will be lost and you will have to reinstall them.
