How to Update HTC Evo 4G with ICS 4.0.1 Firmware

htc evo 4G LogoIt’s now time for HTC Evo 4G device to roll up their sleeves as in the due course of the article we will be talking about on how to update your phones with the latest alpha version of Ice Cream Sandwich ANDROID 4.0.1 firmware version. All thanks to Prelude Drew who has made it possible to accommodate this ice cream sandwich firmware version. This update comes at a time when most of the other devices are too getting the ICS version. Though there is still no clarity on by when an official version of ICS Android 4.0 will be released for HTC Evo 4G device but as in when it arrives, we will cover the same at the earliest.

Note: This update of ICS Android 4.0 is not the official firmware version released by HTC but is the alpha version developed by third party developers.

Essential Pre Requisites:

  • Backup all the data present in your phone only with the help of below mentioned tips and not with the HTC Sync as after applying this update, you may or may not be able to get connected with htc sync as this ICS is the alpha release.

Notes – Backup in the mail so that you can then restore manually
SMS Messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts Stored in Phone Memory – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Videos, Images, Videos & Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that the device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Uninstall all the antivirus applications present in your phone as these may interrupt the process of firmware update.

    Did not work for me either, got the triangle with the exclamation point.

      you can ignore that yellow triangle as its harmless

        I would not let me pass the triangle, it just got stuck on it. Try re starting the phone, but same thing, stuck on the triangle again.

    i tried it… and every time i try to install from sd it aborts and says (bad) at the bottom of the screen, i am running a custom recovery, not sure if that is doing it.. please let me know

    Hey everytime i tryed to click on recovery my phone would just act like it was updating and then gave me a phone with red triangle above it. What am i doing wrong???

      Samsung Galaxy Y hardware isn’t compatible for ICS 4.0 update. Galaxy Note will receive ICS update very soon.
