How to Update HTC Thunderbolt 4G with Sense 3.5 Eternity Custom ROM Firmware

When it comes to the Ice Cream SANDWICH Android 4.0 Firmware version, HTC seems to have completely forgotten about its one of the popular handset named as “Thunderbolt 4G”. Neither respected developers nor we have forgotten about this device and so does we are here with this update of an all new custom ROM firmware which we will be discussing in the due course of this article. Please note that this is not an official firmware released by HTC and also we don’t have an exact ETA on by when there will be an official update released. This all new update is based on the Sense 3.5 and is dubbed as the Eternity Custom ROM firmware. This custom ROM firmware is not an ICS Android 4.0 firmware.

So, you need to back up all the data with the help of below mentioned tips ONLY as HTC Sync won’t be supporting your device after the update since it’s a custom ROM firmware.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
  • Enable the USB Debugging Mode in your HTC Thunderbolt. You can enable the same from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked as shown in the below screen capture.

USB Debugging

Once you have followed all the above mentioned steps, you can now proceed to the next page where we have summed up the detailed tutorial on how to apply this custom ROM firmware update.

“The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.”

    Goto Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All (tab)>**Contacts Storage** — Clear Data

****WARNING*** This will erase all of your contacts. You must import them from your SD or SIM card only via import/export from your people tab under the phone app.

Do not use Titanium Backup or any other back up to restore app or data from “[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage” when flashing to a different rom than what the backup was made from. That is what causes this.

It’s usually a bad idea to restore system apps when flashing new roms as well, this can happen in batch mode when you select the wrong option. When restoring your SMS/MMS via back up, restore the data only, then reboot.

When you flash to a different rom, it is usually a good idea to wipe cache/delvik before flashing. Dirty flashing works for some people in some instances, but it’s dirty for a reason.

This rom works beautifully from a factory reset phone, prior to flashing, and following the instructions above.

    Good Luck.

i just installed this and i keep getting an error saying, “The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” I get it every ten seconds or so. What can i do?

well I got the system to run “smoothly” but it is still not ideal just yet. …all I had to do was a factory data reset. Nevertheless, it helped, but still no Verizon Visual Voicemail. So now I’m using a third party one off the Play market

Can’t seem to get the new sense 3.5 to operate exactly right on my Tbolt. When I try to enter the photo gallery I get a force close error “process com.htc.album has stopped unexpectedly”. Any ideas how to correct this problem? And I apologize if this is a redundant issue resolved elsewhere…

and the visual voicemail isn’t operating either.
