Cyanogen Mod 9 firmware arrives for HTC Wildfire S smartphone and in the due course of this article we will be checking out on how one can easily apply this update. Unfortunately there won’t be any further updates by HTC for HTC Wildfire S as this phone has been discontinued in most of the countries. This update of Cyanogen Mod 9 update ropes in the latest ICS Android 4.0 release. Very soon we will be coming up with the custom Rom firmwares which will be based on the jellybean custom ROM firmware.
Please be informed that this is not an Official firmware update released by HTC, but is a third party firmware update released by Cyanogen MOD team. In the process of this article, we will be checking out on how you can apply this update along with the change log and features of this custom ROM firmware. Please note that since this update is still in the alpha stages, there will be some issues and is not meant for day to day usage. As in when the developer comes along with the newer versions of this build, we will be updating the same.
In the process of applying this update, the data may get lost or corrupted, so it’s highly recommended to back up all the data with the help of below steps. Don’t use HTC Sync to back up the data.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log –Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Minimum battery life should be 60% plus so as to make sure that phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
Note: before proceeding, you need to ensure that the device is rooted and installed with the custom recovery image as without these both its not possible to install the Cyanogen mod 9 firmware update.
Since this update will require you to root the device, the warranty will get void. The only way with which the warranty can be reclaimed is by applying the current / factory firmware.
