How to Update Huawei Honor U8860 with Official ICS Android 4.0 Firmware

Huawei U8860 ICS LogoHuawei Honor is now being honored with the latest state of art Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update. To a surprise, this is the 2nd straight phone after the Galaxy Nexus to get the taste of Ice Cream Sandwich. Though company has released the files for the ICS build but is calling it as a demo one. Though it’s a demo, our close sources at Huawei say that this is the demo version so as to give its customers a feel about the ICS and based on the inputs from the users, it will be launching the ICS Android 4.1 update.

Since it’s a demo operating system, you will have to revert back to the original version of firmware for which we will also give you the detailed instructions in the due course of this article. Please note that you need to follow the instructions carefully or else you may end up bricking up the phone.

we miss some answers on the three main issues:
    1. is the firmware available in ENGLISH?
    2. is Google Play available with this firmware?
    3. How to deal with the “Update Failed” after app. 28% of the “Installing” process (2/2)?

    • Reply Pradeep Neela June 22, 2012 at 4:48 pm

      yes its available in English
      Google PLAY is available,
      Check with Internet connectivity

      • Reply Sune June 22, 2012 at 7:01 pm

thanx for the clarification on the English language. I assume it starts in english, as it may be difficult to find the setting/language on chinese (for me).

        3. “update failed” is the most important, and I see many has this problem, also other forums, and I also meet this problem.
I cannot see this has anything to do with internet connectivity? It is the process of writing to ROM, that stops, and not installation on a working operation system.

unpacking done completely , but installation stopped and write ( update failed – with yellow triangle )

I bought a Huawei Honor in Malaysia in March 2012. Worked fine throughout April. But recently it wouldn’t connect to the store and the now web site says it’s not a supported device. I had installed a dozen or so apps from (both via my computer and the app on the Huawei phone) in April 2012, but now it won’t connect at all. The reply from the folks at was:
Thanks for writing in with your question – I’m happy to help see what’s going on. I reviewed your account and unfortunately right now, the Huawei Honor U8860 isn’t supported for use with the Google Play Store app or with, which is why the Google Play Store app isn’t showing up on your device.

I know this might be confusing, but not all devices running Android are licensed to use Google Play. This happens because manufacturers use the free Android software on their devices, but sometimes these devices don’t pass Google’s compatibility requirements to have the Google Play Store app installed. To help with this confusion, we’ve published a complete list of supported devices here:

To see if your device can become a supported device, or if you have any questions or doubts, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly.
This is strange to me because it was a supported device last month but has now somehow been removed from the list. I wrote to Huawei a few days ago but have received no reply. Maybe this will be fixed by Huawei, but folks thinking about buying this phone should perhaps think again.

I had the upgrade problem so i went to the chinese version of the Huawei website (use google translate if you need to) under the support section for the u8860 there is a list of downloads. One is called HUAWEI_U8860V100R001CHNC00B876版本中转包。B876版本升级4.0前,需要升级此中转包。 (dated 2012-03-11). I downloaded, unzipped and copied the whole dload fold to my sd card and performed a sd card upgrade. Once that was finished i downloaded the new version of 4.0 from huawei (dated 2012-03-10) and performed the upgrade as above no problem

update with the Google apps, it will be fixed!

      • Reply Wit February 22, 2012 at 6:55 pm

@Pradeep – What do you mean with “the Google apps” ???

I have some far more significant problems with this build. I simply cannot find any Marketplace application that will work – it keeps asking for an account whereas my Google Gmail account is listed as one of my mail accounts. Marketplace does not allow me to indicate that I need to “You need to add an account for the device to continue”

Even attempting to install software from the marketplace website is cumbersome because it refuses to install software that was previously installed before the software upgrade (even though the device is wiped along with the SD card) – the marketplace website still shows the application installed on the device…

        • Pradeep Neela February 22, 2012 at 11:04 pm

yes, adding a gmail account is a must!

        • Jeremy Chia March 14, 2012 at 4:32 pm

          @ Pradeep

Yes, even after creating a new account, it will write this is not an android device registered account.
