How to Update Motorola Droid with Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 Firmware

Droid LogoHaving a Motorola Droid phone, you can now breathe easy. Just in case if you wanted to install the latest version of alpha port of Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 version, then it’s here. In the due course of this article we will speak on the same. Be informed that this update is not the one for day to day use and has quite a few bugs and is just an alpha build. This version of ICS is not an official version released by Motorola Inc., there is still no ETA on the arrival of official version but be rest assured that as in when it arrives, we will come up with the same.

Quick Pre Requisites:

  • Before proceeding, you need to be on the Rooted firmware. Once you root the firmware, you will be losing the warranty. The only way with which you can reclaim the warranty is by applying the update once again.
  • Ensure that you have created a backup of all your data present in your phone memory so that the same can be restored easily back to your device just in case if the data gets corrupted or deleted. You can backup or restore data using the below mentioned tips.

Notes – Backup in the mail so that you can then restore manually
SMS Messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts Stored in Phone Memory – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Videos, Images, Videos & Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Ensure that the Motorola Droid is left with the minimum of 60% charge so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
