Procedure to Update Nexus S 4G with ICS 4.0.4 Firmware:
- Before you proceed, you need to install the Nexus S 4G Drivers in your computer so that all the required drivers are installed in your computer which are necessary for applying the update.
- Up next, download the ICS IMM76D 4.0.4 Package (Alternate Link) & ODIN from here to your computer and turn off your device so that the phone can be entered in the Download Mode.
- The download mode in Nexus S 4G can be entered by pressing the Volume Up + Down rocker key and then press the Power button after which you shall see a green robot indicating the Download mode.
- Once the device gets ON in the download mode, connect the phone to the computer while keeping Odin opened in your computer. Once you connect the device, you will see that the ID :COM section in odin will turn Yellow, if it doesn’t then you need to wait for the same to turn it yellow.
- Now, in odin click on the below mentioned options and select the corresponding files which are there in the extracted firmware zip file.
BOOTLOADER – SPH-D720_IMM76D_KE1_BOOTLOAD_signed.tar,
PDA – SPH-D720_IMM76D_PDA_signed.tar,
Phone – SPH-D720_IMM76D_LC1_Modem_signed.tar
- After double checking the above file selections, you can now proceed to click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update. It may take up to 10 minutes for applying this update.
- Once the firmware is updated successfully, the device will be restarted and then once you see the home screen remove the connected USB cable and turn Off the device so that it can then be entered in the recovery mode.
- The Nexus S 4G can be entered into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to turn ON your device.
- In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys. Once it’s done, you then will have to select the option of “reboot system now” for restarting the device.
Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start by re inserting the battery.
