How To Update Samsung Droid Charge to Gingerbread EP1F 2.3 Firmware
Procedure to update Gingerbread 2.3.4 in Samsung Droid Charge:
- So, before proceeding you will have to download the EF 12 Gingerbread 2.3 firmware package in your computer and then proceed for the next step. Please note that while unzipping the files ensure that you have unzipped on your desktop so that you can easily locate the same on your desktop. While unzipping if it asks for the password then you will have to enter the password as androidadvices.com. As soon as you extract successfully you will get the extracted contents as shown in the below screen shot. Just in case any file is missing then you will have to again download the whole firmware zip file from above link. There will be 2 files in all as you can see in the below screen shot.
- Now, as soon as the files are extracted successfully after entering the password to the desktop you will find that there will be two files which are Odin and the Firmware tar file as you can see in the below screen shot. If even one file is missing then you will have to again download the Zip file so as to ensure that all files are present in the downloaded zip file so that we can proceed for the software update with the help of Odin flash tool.

The only thing I would suggest is that you make a note to install the usb drivers off the phone prior to plugging it in when instructed with your tutorial.
For people reading, (just plug your phone into your computer before messing around with it)

Thanks for posting the detailed instructions. I did the updates to 2 droid charge phones tonight. So easy to do and now both phones had >1400 Quadrant score, much faster than before (~1000 score). No need to to configure the apn & mms. Both 4G and wifi worked smoothly.

I had the same experience too. Upgrade was completed in 7 mins, have worked well without any issues since. The only thing, I wished there was some way to do this without losing all your installed apps and having to re-install them again…that was a pain.
I have not tried this upgrade yet but something really has to be done regarding the Droid’s Mobile Hotspot feature. It is totally the WORST when it comes trying to use this feature. Either you connect to a site for a few seconds or when trying to turn the feature on the Server is not available; it looses connections or just does not connect at all. Bottom line…. IT SUCKS!!! I had a better mobile hotspot connection with T-Moblie. The only thing going for the Droid is it’s screen. The phone cuts off in the middle of conversations and overheats. Hopefully this upgrade with fix the Droid’s issues.

have you copied the zip file of the firmware to your phone? How are you trying to update, kindly follow the instructions!
Well, I figured out it wouldn’t unzip cause I was using Windows 7. Now my problem is getting my droid charge into download mode. I tried it several times the way you explain but it won’t do it. I’ve clicked on the link to figure out how to fix it but the links broken.

If pressing the “Down Volume” button doesn’t work with pulling the battery out, try taking the battery out and connecting the phone via USB (with no battery in the phone), while holding the “Down Volume” button at the same time. This worked for me and I wa able to download this successfully!
Is this the update that was rumored to be coming directly from Verizon OTA? Seems a bit involved.

i have the same problem as chuck and all my usb ports are enabled and not blocked and all my antivirus stuff is off so i dont know whats going on.

Have you unlocked? coz it may or may not worked for the network locked devices!
instructions were clear and everything works you guys are freaking awesome but let it be clear “to start the download mode you have to press down the entire volume button i believe that was the problem that some were having” otherwise freaking great (follow instructions people)
the only thing i’m worried about is that i started the process direction by direction about half an hour ago and its still the same way and i dont want to unplug it and have my phone be bricked.

This worked great for me and i didnt have to fiddle with apns the phone just booted and was good to go all radios fired up and the hotspot is flawless. Good work guys. Can someone point me to some ROMS i can flash on this baby? Send me a link please. Btw the quadrant readings after the flas were impessive, they put my EVO to shame…i got 1594.
The update worked perfectly! It wasn’t necessary to reconfigure the APN; 3G, 4G, & WiFi all worked upon booting the phone. Damn this sucker is a lot faster now! Thanks!!
I just did the update and it went throught fine…. HOWEVER, now my Corp Sync email will not function. Everything else works fine and is quick. I also reset to factory default and tried agin and it still does not work. I know the settings are correct, (I’m the Exchange Admin). Any advice. Is there a way to roll back?
