I have troubles with Odin detecting my device connected to the computer.
Is there any certain trick how the connection can be established?

configure the APN Settings in your phone, the Internet on your phone will work!

Are you saying Odin should be run from the phone directly?
I thought the instructions said to use an USB cable.

Do i really need to clear cache and “wipe data”. Would it really make the phone much faster? The update worked perfect. I just want to know if the last step will help a lot.

just try removing the battery and then re inserting? we think there is an issue with the unlocking process which you had done! Visit the Samsung Service centre to fix the same and then you can enter into the download mode. you can check the same once again!

WIFI STILL, BAD QUADRANT SCORES ARE GR8 BUT THE WIFI REALLY SUX STILL ,CALL LOGS WORK GOOD NOW, SEEMS TO HAVE A SLIGHT MORE MEMORY THAN PREVIOUS FIRMWARES IVE HAD BT WORKS DOESNT FORCE CLOSE LIKE ON 2.3.3 SAME WITH THE STATUS BAR OVER ALL A GOOD UPGRADE BUT DOWNLOAD MODE IS A BIT TRICKY BECAUSE IT NOW GIVES YOU ON OPTION TO UPGRADE FIRMWARE AS OPPOSED TO JUST GOING STR8 INTO DOWNLOAD MODE, THE DISPLAYS ARE THE SAME AS THE 2.3.3 EXCEPT SETTINGS OPTIONS ARE NOW BLACK.

Thanks a whole lot.. I was able to update to this update and was no hustle… First i freaked when my first attempt failed. I got it to download mode and Odin recognized it and it failed. I took the battery out and the phone did not boot. i had a little phone icon connecting to the computer. I closed Odin and opened it again and picked the files and it worked.. I had all my contacts and my APN was intact..very funny thanks a whole lot………………..

  13. Reply jb4g September 12, 2011 at 11:31 am

This update is great even more so since you don’t have to be rooted. I was rooted before this and since updating see no reason to now since the phone is running in tip top condition. Lastly I noticed that if you are upgrading from the last gingerbread release that you don’t actually lose all, of your info/data so if you read this before updating then test assure that you will be ok. Oh yeah and you get a cool keyboard, that lets you txt in different languages lol enjoy

My phone firmware version is 2.3.4. It is saying I9000XXJVP is the base band version.
Is there a difference between this and the UVKG4?
The model number is of course GT-I9000

        • NeaL Pradeep September 16, 2011 at 7:03 pm

YES THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, KINDLY FIND FOR THE ENHANCEMENT SECTION!

    Hey Mike,
try booting your phone into recovery mode and then wiping your cache. I was about to apply the update again and I remembered that one of the optional things we were asked to do was to wipe the cache. I did this and my phone booted normally and I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
