How To Update Samsung Galaxy Ace GT S5830 to Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXKPH Firmware

Galaxy Ace LogoIf you have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and if you are still wondering on why still there is no word on Gingerbread 2.3.4 version, then you will be rejoiced to know that your wait for the same is now over as we will see in the due course of this article on how you can easily update your Samsung Galaxy Ace with the 2.3.4 version. This update comes as a respite as when we last covered on the updates for the Galaxy Ace with the versions as Gingerbread 2.3.3, most of the users either requested for the article on how to get back to the stock version of Froyo or an article for updating with the better version of the Gingerbread. Though as of now we didn’t felt the requirement to get back to the older version as with the arrival of Gingerbread 2.3.4 for the Galaxy Ace most of the bugs have been solved.

Right from the refreshing all new user interface to an all new set of optimizations, you will surely love the overall intuitive experience which will be reflected after updating your phone with the latest Gingerbread XXKPH 2.3.4 version.

Please note that updating with this firmware won’t mean that your warranty will be void as updating the device will just update the device and doesn’t root the phone. For all those who don’t know what rooting is then we would like to tell you that rooting voids the warranty and updating the firmware won’t. So, it’s a safe thing to update your phone to the Gingerbread XXKPH 2.3.4 version if and only if you follow each and every single instruction carefully which will ensure that you are on a right track to update your phone. So, let’s proceed to the pre upgrade instructions followed by the list of quick enhancements which have been made followed by the instructions to update your phone with the XXKPH 2.3.4 firmware version of Gingerbread on Galaxy Ace.

Also, as a proud reader of Android Advices we would like to say you all guys out there that this update will be the last update for the Galaxy Ace that is in terms of the 2.3.4 as many might be hoping for the Gingerbread 2.3.5 for Galaxy Ace as the 2.3.5 Android Gingerbread version is for all the devices which are powered by the NFC (Near Field Chip). Though there will be plenty and ample amount of update for Galaxy Ace in the 2.3.4 Gingerbread series as depending upon the user’s requests as well as feedbacks, the version of 2.3.4 will be optimized to the best possible way. Please note that you should only proceed for the updation process if and only if your device is S 5830 Galaxy Ace unlocked version or else your phone will be locked and also might get bricked. Also, we hold no responsibility if something happens for your device if you don’t follow the instructions which are mentioned below.

Can i downgrade the frimware from android 2.3.4 to android 2.3.3? Isit using the same method as upgrading?

  75. Reply bruno August 19, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Hi, got a question: one of the reasons for me to upgrade to Gingerbread, was the SIP functionality. I successfully upgraded to android 2.3.4 using your very useful tool – without any problem. But when I look under settings – Calls, I simply don’t see the ‘internet calls’ option. I supposed it could be blocked by the provider I got the phone from? Any way to get around this, or should it have been erased when I upgraded?
    Thnx!

Hi, I just successfully upgraded my Galaxy Ace to 2.3.4 version as per your instructions shared. However I realised that after upgrading, I face 2 problems:
1). The Home Menu is left with only 3 pages, instead of the original 4 or 5
2). Under the “Input Method”, the Chinese input option is gone.
3). My phone has become in some eastern european language. I can set it back to English, but some of the applications are in the same eastern european language.

My questions, how to rectify the above (especially no 2), or any way I can reverse the OS back to Android 2.2.1 version? Thanks.

    • Reply Wukong August 10, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Hi one more very important difference I just realized was that in the previous version, many applications downloaded can be saved onto the SD card automatically. But now it seems they are saved onto the phone internal memory and cannot be moved to SD card. This is important enough reason for me to want to reverse. Please advise. Thanks.

      • Reply NeaL Pradeep August 10, 2011 at 7:55 pm

For that you will have to configure the APN settings appropriately so that you can browse 3G.

I can’t seem to find it on this article page :S
    Thank you!

the file link is there in the procedure section!

Update went OK but default language on boot looked Polish or Russian so needed to goto locale settings. Also there is a strange icon in the control panel area… a letter ‘A’ with a red circle around it that does nothing. I guess it should launch an app that is missing or not relevant ?

    • Reply Neal July 22, 2011 at 12:34 am

      yes it will do!

  130. Reply Vedu July 19, 2011 at 12:06 am

    Hi,
    Thanks for info.
    Upgrade went through smoothly.
After the completion of upgrade some other language(other than English) appeared. Is this expected?

    • Reply Neal July 22, 2011 at 12:38 am

yes in some cases as its a region specific issue!

When I ask the seller of this phone, to change to Gingerbread 2.3.4, he tells me that, it has not arrived for Iceland.

Can you please inform me, when that will happen.

with appreciation in advance for your replay.

    Hi Neal,

I have upgraded my Galaxy ACE as per your instructions. Only one problem, as per your given instructions, mobile is not going in to RECOVERY mode but, it is going in RAMDUMP mode.

I have followed instructions given by “Ravi E” and able to go into RECOVERY MODE.

Thanks to both NEAL and RAVI.

Guys to go into recovery mode you need to press Home key & power key. Navigate using the vol keys & select using home key. Hope this helps.. :)

    Hey Neal,
Please edit your tutorial on how to enter recovery mode in Galaxy ACE .Its different from what you have provided in the article. You have provided the correct method it in another article of yours . I could clear the cache after following the other link mentioned below

You will have to switch ON your device in the recovery Mode which can be done by holding the Middle button and then Power ON the device by pressing the Power ON button. to enter recovery mode in ACE

i upgraded my ace to gingerbread 2.3.4 yesterday, but after running for some time, i noticed that the touch is not responding accurately. specially, when i am texting on the virtual qwerty.., i press a key on one part f the screen and some other key also responds without getting touched… this happens at times, not always, but everytime i am texting.

can’t figure out the prob. :( as no one else has ever had a complaint like this, i believe.

    HELP!!!

Hi, I am also experiencing issues with Wi-fi connections after the upgrade.
I am also no longer able to connect.

Try to reduce the level of encryption on your network. Not wpa2 but wpa, or something…

        • Atul Shah July 17, 2011 at 1:38 pm

I am not what the issue was, but now Wi-Fi is working fine using WPA2. I did not do anything. Maybe it just takes longer to connect.
