How to Update Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 with ICS Android 4.0 Styled Custom ROM
Procedure to Update Galaxy ACE S5830 with ICS Styled Myth ROM:
- Before proceeding, you need to be on any of the Rooted firmware. Once the device is rooted, we hope that the Clock Work Mod Recovery is installed in the phone. After this, download ICS Myth Custom ROM Firmware in your computer.
- Once you are done with the above step, it’s now time to connect the Galaxy ACE device with the compute using the USB cable and copy the ICS Myth Zip ROM in your device’s SD Card. Once you copy the same, turn off the phone and remove the connected USB Cable so as to enter the phone into the recovery mode.
- The recovery mode in the Galaxy ACE can be entered by Holding Menu Button and then Power ON the device. If the device turns ON in the normal mode then you need to try again to enter into the recovery mode.
- Now, in the recovery mode, you need to select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the ICS Android 4.0 Zip file which is placed in the phone.
- Once you select the file, the process of firmware update will be started and it will take up to 5 minutes to finish the update. Once the update is applied, you need to select “clear cache” from the recovery mode itself so as to clear off the cache data.
- After the firmware update gets finished, you need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” > “reboot system now” to reboot the phone. And there you go, you have now successfully updated the Galaxy ACE S5830 with the latest firmware of Myth which is the ICS Styled Custom ROM.

i’ve got a couple of questions.
1: I rooted my phone on the firmware 2.3.4 ddkq6. Is Clock Work Mod Recovery than automaticly installed on my phone or should i do that by myself. If so, HOW?
2: I recovery mode I do not have the option “install zip from sd card” or “clear cache”. Instead of that I have “apply sdcard update.zip” and “wipe cache partion”. Is that a problem?

dont use cwm for ace,
no that’s not an issue! you can choose the option but for that you need to rename the zip file to “update.zip”

helo marteen, the clockworkrecoverymod(CWM) may or maynot be installed in ur phone. To check if its installed, open the recovery mode. In the title of tat screen, if its mentioned CWM then u can ensure tat it has been installed. In ur case, it has not been installed since you have clearly mentioned that u r only getting “apply sdcard update.zip” and “wipe cache partion” option. To enter the recovery mod, hold the power button + home key til u see the recovery screen.

Please download DDKQ6 through Android Advices. Bring your phone to ‘download’mode ( press volumedown+menu+power button simultaniously. Connect your phone thru USB Cable and update through ODIN. Before doing it remove cache, dalvic cache and factory reset. You can search’Ándroid Advices’ for guidance for updating.

you not only need to update but you need to root as well to accommodate this firmware!

i have android 2.3.7 running CyanogenMod 7.1. Its obviously rooted with DDKQ6. however, i have very little phone memory available. will that create a problem?

Remove the battery and reload it. Go to recovery mode by pressing menu button and power button. If you can go there remove the cache and power off. Now try to load the firmware through ODIN through download mode.( Press Volume down+menu+ poer button simultaniously) It will work. Do not panic and do it calmly.

I have 2.3.5 xwks2 but till date i’ve not found any root for xwks2, so i guess i should first switch to DDKQ5 or 6 then root it and the install this \Myth\, but DDKQ 5 & 6 are 2.3.4 so isn’t it older than 2.3.5 and shouldn’t i upgrade to MYTH from 2.3.5 rather than 2.3.4?
AND how much & in which sense is this MYTH rom beneficial ?

I have followed al instructions carefully. My phone as also rooted phone. Udate got aborted. No I am able to bo to recovary mode- it shows the zip file – after selecting it also starts updating but aborgs in between saying unlable to load //cache . as you are getting the cache error, you need to clear the cache first, on which fw you are on? have you rooted it?

secondly i followed your instructions to the letter and i ended up getting stuck on the boot loop as many others have and yes my phone is/was rooted i was on the official 2.3.4 gingerbread “rooted”
and i started to panic because nothing i could do would get it out of this boot logo loop
so i ended up using this

so keep at it and you will get out of this semi brick

For all those facing “Mount Error”:
Please install CWM first, then restart and go to recovery mode.
Install this update from CWM, you wont face any error.
@Pradeep Neela: Please stop saying just “Follow the instructions carefully”. You haven’t mentioned installing CWM in article.

I have tried clearing cache many times, but after starting update it gives same error. The phone still goes in recovary mode – starts the update – but aborts saying unable to load //cache. After this If i try to reboot it gets stuck to opening screen for ever.
I can also go to download mode by pressing volume down+menu+power – Can I use this to recover my phone. Please guide as I am not able to use my phone now

Brother pradeep…. first i installed ddqk6 from this it works fine.. then i root the phone with the same root topic from our site then there is super user in my menu then i download cwm from android market and installed it and as i did as u said in above instruction for installing ics… but its giving mount error… pls help… what that another guy saying install it from cwm … pls help

I have updated my ace with ddq6.Then I also rooted it.But the moment I select ICS myth Lite zip file…It first displays ics myth logo.Then suddenly disappears.It shows unable to mount.But I have followed all u r steps and sd card I did not unmount.

After doing that i am getting the same error as others are getting.
i tried to flash my mobile using ODIN. but after flashing it does not boot. It keeps rebooting. Samsung logo comes and then it reboots.

Big fan of this site and love ur stuff. XDA-forum is bit tough lingo for me, so I visit this site, for easy simple and digest-able instructions to root and install new firmwares to my Ace.
Following this thread for some time and seems like we have some problems with installation.
PLEASE FOLLOW THIS STEPS AND I ASSURE YOU IT WILL WORK, AS FEW MINUTES BACK I HAVE FINISHED INSTALLING MINE.
1. ROOTING FOR 2.3.3/2.3.4/2.3.5/2.3.6/2.3.7
a) Download attached file called upd_1.zip from link below and copy it to your sdcard

b) Turn off your phone
c) Press POWER+HOME BUTTON
d) Select update from sdcard, select the file upd_1.zip
e) After the update completed – reboot
f) Now you have rooted S5830
2. INSTALLING ClockWorkMod
a) Download ClockWorkModAce.zip

c) Completely switch off the phone

3. INSTALLING The ICS Myth ROM
a) Download TheMythICS_Lite.zip file

b) Copy TheMythICS_Lite.zip file to SD card
c) Backup all your data and charge your phone to a good battery level
d) Switch off your phone and re start it in CWM mode by pressing home+power button
e) Go to wipe data/Factory reset >> click yes
f) Wipe cache partition >> Click yes
g) Go to Install Zip from SD card >> select the TheMythICS_Lite.zip file >> Click yes
h) When it shows install from Sdcard complete >> goto main menu and restart the phone.
When you boot it first time it may take 5-10 minutes. So be patient.
Thats it.. You have ICS on Galaxy Ace S5830 now., Enjoy

My firmware is rooted one with ddkq6 2.3.4. I have installed Titanium Backup and have back-up all the data. When I update from your advice it is exactly happen like quote by nitesh on January 4, 2012 at 10:00 am (Status 0) failed to mount/cache(Invalid argument). Then My phone is not started early.
Then I apply ddkq5 2.3.4 firmware through Odin

Im running the new ICS rom. Does anyone know how to get the GPS to work on the Galaxy Ace? I have tried several apps and have edited the gps.conf file as suggested from other forums.
It just keeps looking for GPS signal and wont get a fix no matter how long you leave it.
If anyone has a working gps.conf file they could email to me that would be fantastic!

i downloaded the ICS MYTH, copied the zipped file onto my SD Card, then rebooted my phone to install it, im not sure if it went through or installed but my phone just freezed onto a black screen. i tried to reboot again but it just went on the opening screen. i cant use my phone now, what should i do?? Hello, The file is not downloading itself, with the mediafire.com link it gets stuck at 99% using orbit downloader and with normal browser it gets stuck at 29 mb completed

This rom has a very bad glitch in it. my phone restarts its self every 3-5 minitues. The best rom I have found yet is Mush*69.Rom

dont use cwm for ace,
no that’s not an issue! you can choose the option but for that you need to rename the zip file to “update.zip”

Tried to install it.
I had 2.3.3, perfectly rooted, a perfectly functional SD card as well.
But as a lot of other people have found, I was getting the same error message. Something like ”can’t update… SD card not mounted…”
Had to go through hell of a lot to get it functioning again. Thanks to the Odin software… I now have 2.3.5
I personally like using new things whenever possible… but should have read the whole comment thread before I proceeded.
Now that I have read it all, the last comment says ”It’s no longer recommended from us.”
WTH dude, do you have any idea how many phones you could possibly brick with an untested process which apparently have plenty of glitches even if it can be installed somewhat.

The first time I tried to install it, the installation failed. But the second time, before installing, I formatted the user data and the cache partition using Clock Work Mod. I also cleared the Dalvik Cache from Advanced. Then after that I followed the instructions and Viola!

I rooted the DDKQ6 firmware successfully.
In recovery mode, instead of “install from sdcard”, I could see “apply update from sdcard”. I used this option with the TheMythICS_Lite.zip file but like many others, I also received the error E :failed to mount / cache (invalid argument )
Then I tried to install the DDKQ6 firmware again but it didn’t go on after installation of amss. Now, i am only getting the first logo screen and the device is restarting again and again.
Can you suggest something here?

Remove the dalvik cache and try rebooting.
