Galaxy Ace S5830

How To Update Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 with Official Gingerbread 2.3.5 XWKS2 Firmware

Procedure to update Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 with Gingerbread 2.3.5:

  • So, assuming that you have followed the instructions which are mentioned in the earlier page you will now need to proceed to download the Gingerbread 2.3.5 XWKS2 Zip file in your computer. So, now once you download the same in your computer you will have to proceed to unzip the same, in the process of unzipping if it prompts you to enter the password then enter the password as “”.

Extracted Files

  • As soon as the files are extracted, you will now have to match the extracted files with the below screen capture as there will be three files in all. The three files are Odin executable file, one tar md5 file and another one is the .dll file which you need to ignore the same as it’s a supporting file.

Extracted Files XWKS2

  • So, once all the files are unzipped successfully, you will now need to open the Odin executable file in your computer you need to now turn Off the phone so that then you can enter into the download mode.

Odin for Galaxy ACE XWKS2

  • The download mode in your Samsung GALAXY Ace can be entered by pressing down on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button . Just in case if the device boots in the normal mode then you will have to again try the process of entering into the download mode. Please note that it’s not recommended to proceed if you are not entering into the download mode. One can also refer the below video to enter into the download mode.

  • So, as soon as you enter into the download you will now have to now connect the phone with the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase while keeping the Odin as opened in the computer. Now, once you have successfully connected the phone after 2 – 3 minutes you will see that the ID: COM section will turn yellow which will mean that all the drivers which are required for the firmware update has been successfully updated and you are now ready to proceed to the firmware update.

Phone Connected XWKS2

  • Now, at his point of time you will have to click on the corresponding options which are listed below and choose the files as mentioned below.

OPS – Cooper_v1.0.ops

Select “One Package” option in the Odin

One Package – S5830XWKS2_S5830XENKS1_S5830XWKS2_HOME.tar.md5

  • So, as soon as the above selections are made, you will now see that the phone will be restarted automatically.
  • As soon as the update is applied successfully, you will see that the device will be restarted on its own and in the process of the firmware update ensure that the firmware update process is not interrupted. Now, again you need to turn Off the phone after you see the home screen. Once you turn Off the phone you now need to enter into the recovery mode.

Files selected in XWKS2

  • Once you enter into the recovery mode, choose the options Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option. Please note that you will have to ensure that you don’t select any other options or else there is a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone.

  • After this you will have to re configure the APN Settings which can be done from the path Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. Just in case if you forgot to backup then you will have to contact your service provider so that the settings can be configured manually as the settings vary from place and operator you are on.

So that’s it in this way you have successfully updated the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 to the latest official version of gingerbread d2.3.5. Let us know in the comments section if there are any issues encountered at the time of updating the firmware.

    hi neel dont answer my previous question .. pleeease neela pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase answer this post . i need a little of your team info

    i have found my 2.3.3 arabic firmware from here :

    ht t p://ww w.samsdroid .com/2011/11/samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-stock-rom.html (withought space)

    and this site didnt gave me odin but gave me below three file , named :

    1 – APBOOT_S5830JPKP9_CL457554_REV03_user_low_true.tar

    2- CODE_S5830JPKP9_CL457554_REV03_user_low_true.tar
    3 – GT-S5830-MULTI-CSC-OJPKP3.tar

    i think by exprience that first file should place in “BOOT” part in odin
    second file i guess i should place in “PDA”
    third file should placed in CSC

    can i use odin version 4.38 to ugrade to gingerbread 2.3.3 ?

    Greetings from Colombia!,

    Just to inform that last night I updated my Samsung Galaxy Ace over the air (from internet with a Wifi connection) and I got surprised because the new version is 2.3.6 with kernel and compilation number GINGERBREAD.UBKPK. So far it seems the same version I had before. What’s new in this version I got?. Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Hello, everyone!

    I have been following posts here and it seems there is much confusion as to where to put what and what not to put where.

    In order for us to help Pradeep Neela facilitate this site, I recommend that you write down your queries to him by citing which country you purchased your phone, its current version and CSC version (*#1234#).

    As for your queries regarding which Android version you need, you must:

    1. First determine which country of origin you come from (or will need to use your phone);

    2. Check your phone version by typing *#1234# (please write it down)

    3. Locate the firmware most compatible for your phone here:
    4. Just follow all his instruction and things will turn out just fine.

    Hope this helps.

    Great job, Neal!

    I updated my Ace but Arabic language is not on it.
    Note : It is not in the Locale and TEXT.

  25. Paco

    December 31, 2011 at 9:30 pm

    IMPORTANT NOTE (please add that information):

    Ok, so yesterday I got my brand new Galaxy Ace and installed the firmware update as stated in this article. Unfortunately, I was not able to get into recovery mode with “Power + Volume Up + Menu button”. Instead I got into “Ramdump Mode (ARM9)” and had to take out the battery to get the phone running again. As I read on different sites, this seems to be a general problem with some Galaxy Aces.

    BUT: Right now, I accidently got into Recovery Mode by JUST holding the Menu Button, while the phone was off.

          Download stock ROM from and install that firmware. They give a .zip file so you’re ready to go.
          If you want to try again, root and redo the flashing and stuff. Otherwise stick with the stock

    Dear NeaL

    I have been following for sometime and I have learned a lot in the process, so Thanks for Advices.

    I live in UAE and yesterday my Ace upgraded to 2.3.3; Baseband versionS5830XWKP7; Build no: Gingerbread JPKP9; via Kies.

    Is it worth upgrading from 2.2.3 to 2.3.5 manually?

    And no Kies is not offering 2.3.5 Over The Air in this region (until now).

    Thanks and waiting for you kind reply.

    i’ve a strange problem with my phone, which I face on ddkq6 & also had it on froyo, – occasionally the sound that is suppose to come out from the back speaker, comes out from front ear piece.

    i’ve never faced this problem with ddkq5.
    Any suggestions?

    After getting tired of not getting any updates from Kies to work on my phone, I carefully followed all of the above steps.

    No problems whatsoever, running 2.3.5 now, and it works like a charm! Definitely noticable speedup (from 2.3.3), and I got rid of most of the Vodafone crap in the process :).

    Thanks very much!

    For those of you that can’t get the recovery mode to work: keep [home] and [on] button pressed even AFTER your Ace has sprung to life – until you actually see the recovery mode.

      Only one solution i.e. Remove the battery.

      To go into recovery mode. Press only HOME + POWER key. One more thing, don’t release both keys till you get in to the recovery mode. This is important.

      This will surely works for you. All the best.

    My observation is — this version 2.3.5 is not fast as compared to earlier version 2.3.4. As and when I am unlocking by sliding. it hangs a while and then opens the home screen. Please advise, what to do ???? I am thinking to go back to 2.3.4 i.e. DDKQ5.

    Waiting for your reply.

    Android 2.3.7
    ROM (for flashing from stock or other custom ROMs):
    ROM (for updating from CyanogenMod-7.1.0-Cooper-KANG-Beta1 or Beta2): (no need wipe, all your data will be saved, but wipe dalvik cache is necessary)

    What new in RC1 build:
    – full odexed ROM (more performance, more free space on \data);
    – new kernel from ketut;
    – no more accidentally rejected calls by pressing “Back” button (function disabled);
    – FM Radio app’s graphics bug fixed;
    – GoogleApps updated to 28.08.2011 version (except Market);
    – cifs.ko, tun.ko, zram.ko modules updated;
    – lib updates;
    – noise suppression in call enabled.

    Fixes (flash from recovery):
    Fixed in cm-7.1.0-RC1-Fix1-12.10.11:
    – fixed kernel from ketut, without oc (if you want overclocking, you need reflesh oc-kernel);
    – updated cifs.ko, tun.ko, zram.ko modules;
    – 640×480 videorecording, better sound quality in video

    All info about CyanogenMod you can find here.

    How to install:
    1. You need a stock or custom rom with Android 2.3.*
    2. You need ClockWorkMod4 or ClockWorkMod5 installed (I recommend this recovery)
    3. Copy on SDcard
    4. Reboot into ClockWorkMod, wipe data/factory reset. If you using BehradGH CyanoAce, you need format /system in CWM before flashing this rom .
    5. Flash from recovery
    6. Reboot your phone (first boot will take some time)

      1) the options Wipe data/factory reset.
      2) you need to select Wipe Cache partition
      3) reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option

      After doing these 3 steps, the Samsung Ace boots up nicely in Netherland language and I have to go into setting>languages to change to English (United States).

    Succesful updated, but the problem is , the phone will hang a while and will restarted by itself, why?

    • JL

      October 21, 2011 at 11:18 am

      Welcome in the club. Mine is doing the exact same. Setting of display time gets ignored totally. Never off for wifi means nothing after roughly 2 minutes the phone shuts down. Now I reinstalled and reset the phone 20 times on three different computers. It doesn’t matter what I do.

      Back to 2.2.1 then 2.3.3 then 2.3.4 and up 2.3.5 following the instructions provided step by step. Same result every time.

      We got 2 S5830 in the house its the same on both devices. I getting quit tired of getting these NON finished FW from what ever source that provides them without KNOWING what exactly WORKS and what NOT WORKS….

    Great! A new version… Unfortunately it looks it’s not working 🙁

    Odin says:
    Odin v.3 engine (ID:10)..
    File analysis..
    Enter CS for MD5..
    Leave CS..

    Samsung Galaxy Ace says:

    This is for more than half an hour now and I don’t see anything moving/progressing… When I disconnect the phone the old ROM is still in place and working… Hope that it works for others…

    I tried to apply this update but no luck. Please note that i was on 2.3.4 DDKQ5 and try to apply this update.

    Nothing is moving. I waited for 15-20 minutes but, no result / not updated. After that, i have disconnected my mobile. good thing is that mobile is working & sno change. Getting following in the screen Odin3 screen :

    Odin v.3 engine (ID:13)..
    File analysis..
    Enter CS for MD5..
    Leave CS..
    All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

    Please help to resolve the issue………
