How To Update Samsung Galaxy Gio S 5660 to Gingerbread XXKQ3 2.3.4 Firmware

Galaxy Gio LogoGalaxy Gio, one of the most affordable smart phones has now got one of the most latest firmware update in the form of Gingerbread 2.3.4. So, for all those who has recently purchased this phone and wished that their device was loaded with the Gingerbread 2.3.4 version then this version comes to your rescue. This version of the firmware is dubbed as XXKQ3 and is the better version of Gingerbread 2.3.4 than ever as last version of the Gingerbread firmware version was reported with few errors but most of the errors are solved in this version which is the best part of this firmware.

So, in the due course of this article we will watch out on how you can easily update the firmware of your Galaxy Gio with the help of one simple tutorial which will be discussed in the further part of this article. The only thing i would like to request you is that kindly follow the instructions which are mentioned in this article as it has been found that most of the users doesn’t follow the instructions and tend to skip some crucial instructions which again is a very bad thing as it leads to the improper flashing of the firmware and results in the bricking of the phone.

Please note that, if you have rooted your Samsung Galaxy Gio earlier then you will have to note that updating with this firmware will un root the device, so you will have to root the device again if you wish to after upgrading to the latest 2.3.4 Gingerbread XXKQ3 version. Many of the users also have the locked versions of Galaxy Gio but you will have to note that updating with this firmware may or may not work with your phone so we hold no responsibility if you update the device which is networked locked handset. Irrespective of the version on which you are currently On, you can easily proceed to update your device but it’s very important to follow all the instructions which are given below carefully as if you don’t follow even a single instruction then there is a high possibility that you may end up bricking up your device, so make sure that you follow the instructions below so as to facilitate the smoother firmware update process.

I was wondering what should I do with my Samsung Galaxy Gio SHW-M290K version(from Korea), when I upgraded it to Gingerbread 2.3.4 from Froyo 2.2. When in screen auto-rotation, everything is reversed, up is down right is left etc. Plus the Wi-Fi and bluetooth doesn’t work at all. And now it doesn’t even play avi. movie files.. Is there any possibility to fix this?

If I upgrade to this version, will I be able to upgrade with Kies when an official version will be release?

I mean, I had a Galaxy Mini, and upgrade it with ODIN from 2.1 to 2.2, but after that I couldnt upgrade to 2.3. It said \This firmware can’t be upgrade\ or something like that.

Now on my Gio I upgrade it from 2.2.3 to 2.3.3, But I have to know for sure if I will be able to upgrade in future to an another official version trough KIES..

And one more question. If something goes bad, is there a solution to backup this version (2.3.3 from KIES) somehow?

    Thanks. 🙂

    Dear Neal,

My Gio was bought in Singapore. Its version froyo 2.2.1 and base S5660DXKC3 and Kernal

Could you advise me to which firmware version should I upgrade? Since the handset is sold in Singapore, I guess it would belong to Asian version. Currently, the phone language is English. My concern is that after flashing, would the phone still support English language as some of your fans say after the update the language becomes Russian.

Would very much appreciate your reply.

Because mine says GT-5660 and if I go to settings – about phone – model number says GT-5660.

So I’m wondering if I can use your upgrade, because you emphasized a lot that the model name and the number must be the same.

    1. beware that you have to enable the serial port in your pc’s bios (for most pc’s this is the standard bios setting but i forgot that i had disabled it and the ODIN software uses a virtual serial port, which relies on the windows serial port driver to work)

    2. the latest step is to go into recovery mode. beware that you probably need the home/menu button + power button. (using the volume up button as well will NOT get you in recovery mode but in ARMS mode.)

i was already running 2.3.3 and my phone was configured and had several apps installed. after following the steps as mentions in the guide, everything was working just fine. no need to reconfigure or reinstall (so far).

for all having the RAMDUMP problem, this is the solution:
first, disconnect the usb-cable, after that, use the directions of RAVI.
(If the usb cable is still connected, the gio will boot into RAMDUMP mode,
if the usb cable is not connected, the gio will boot into RECOVERY mode)

In the article it is mentioned that to get in recovery mode you should press Volume Up + Home + Power On. That may be true for Galaxy S, but it is _not_ true for Galaxy Gio. With galaxy Gio, you should only press Home + Power On.

I read this tutorial, and I updated 2.3.4 firmware , but last step / the recovery mode / doesn’t work for me too. I got the screen error message. I shut down with out of the battery. Now that’s all right.

    THX !!

You can enter the recovery mode by holding down the home and power buttons simultaneously (no need to hold down the volume up key).. then navigate using the volume key and select a menu using the home key..

    This doesn’t work for me
To get in to the recovery mode and to clear the cache first up you will have to turn off the phone and then long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to star
But i got 2.3.4 on my GIO, now hoping that the shut downs are gone

Thank you for this. but why there is no middle east version of gingerbread for this phone and samsung doesnt relrease it? what do you think?

Just a question before flashing: (as i have seen from many other videos) does odin automatically put the phone in recovery to erase cache and data? or do I still have to enter recovery and manually wipe data and cache partitions? Thanks.

i found a problem with system music player, it couldn’t read tag from m4a/aac+ and couldn’t play it smoothly.
