How To Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with Extra Ordinary ROM v3.4
Want a normal ROM or an Extra Ordinary ROM for your extra ordinary ROM? So, let’s proceed and check out on how you can make use of an all new latest version of Extra ordinary ROM which is dubbed as 3.4 version, last time we saw on how you can update your Galaxy with the 3.3 version of ROM and some of the users faced issues while downloading the applications from the Android Market Place. After the upgrade, my quadrant score has dropped to below 1500. I used to get 1750.

I tried to use SGS tools and did an TW Launcher upgrade but kept giving me error, good thing, I downloaded an extra LAUNCHER to be in a safe side if there is something that will go wrong which it did. It kept giving me an error something busybox, kept saying that I don’t have it or it is not detected. I have installed both busybox from the market and it is still giving me error. Am I installing this wrong?

Im having SGS I9000. Im a good enough Darky ROM’s fan. But the problem remains the battery life being the same. 8 hours on 3g and 12 hours on wifi. Does this ROM actually give 48 hours of battery life with average usage? I assume if its 48 hours on avg usage it would give atleast 12 hours of 3g browsing. Is that so !?

I was facing force close error just after a call on XXJVR. So i went back to stable XXJVO. Now if i upgrade to this rom will i face same force close problem after call like XXJVR since this rom is build on XXJVR? Plz suggest. I don’t want to take a risk again.
CLEAR THE CACHE FROM RECOVERY MODE…
this rom seems to be a bit stable have flashed it need to play with it a little more specially after recovering my applicatins but there is 1 big mess up on the interface, if u go to contacts and open options menu go to more settings u only see black menu coming up with no text cuz the background and text both are in black color same happens in messaging menu as well so neal please can u get this fixed and provide us with an update else it is very annoying…

I updated my Galaxy S GT9000 with XXJVQ 2.3.4 and Extraordinary Rom 3.3 and it was working working fine.
I tried to upgrade to XXJVR / Extraordinary Rom 3.4 followed exactly the instructions above but rebooting after installing ExtrRom 3.4 my phone hangs stucked with the GalaxyS GT-9000 logo forever…

I am new user to Galaxy S GT I9000 & on firmware version of 2.3.3 , base band version I9000DDJV5 , Kernel version2.6.35.7-I9000DDJV9-CL312456root@SE-S605#2,Build number Gingerbread.DDJV9. If I upgrade to EO 3.4 will my warranty be broken. Will I be at advantage over current firmware & what advantage. Also is it sfe to play with phone firmware.

Allright, figured out what went wrong. Fixed the issue by installing cwm, but got stuck at a new problem.
I installed XXJVR 2.3.4, rooted my sgs1 with cwm, placed EXTRAordinary_3.4.zip on the SDcard, made a backup, ran the EXTRAordinary_3.4.zip, wiped all the cache and cleared the partition as this will clear off all the cache files. I didn’t proceed to clear the “DALVIK CACHE”, then selected “reboot device” and after that my phone doesn’t startup any further than: “Galaxy S, GT-I9000. SAMSUNG”
I tried three times running the zip, but the result remains the same.
I’m running out of solutions..

I have a question about EO3.4, I updated and after update I run the ext4 app and it says “Warning no CF-ROOT kernel detected, might not function properly”
I updated it twice and the same thing happend every time.
Also there are no voodoo lag fix options in the Recovery menu like the previous version.

This rom is soooo stable&fast..no error or problem so far. Better than 3.3 or Amertris. Memopad preinstalled.Camcorder one of my favorite.Really easy to choose pic with Quickpic.Add-on are superb.CRT-tv effect…cool! Best rom so far… tq so much.

Hi Neal, got it done running very smoothly. you have mentioned for ext4 application, when I 1st flashed the ROM, ext4 was there in applications but when i copied and installed the zip file for the ADD ON, rebooted my device, ext4 app is gone.?? SGS tools is there now, did i miss a part ? should have first converted it to ext4 then install the zip???

2. it will take some time to further fine tune the battery, you will have to wait and see after few charge cycles or you will have to re calibrate the battery!

when we install this ROM fresh , what is the filesystem by default after isntalling this ROM ?
for e.g i mean to say that .. before installing this ROM i converted my system and filesystem to ext4 from CWM .. there an error came that system cannot be converted as not enough space on SD card but filesystem got changed .. after then i installed this ROM having in mind that i installed the ROM on ext4 filesystem ..
my point is after installing the ROM does the filesystem again converts back to RFS ? and we have to do the conversion again ? or it remains on ext4 if we have converted it before installing the ROM?
by default its RFS only!
you can convert the file systems either ways that is from rfs to ext4 or from ext4 to rfs!

When I touch the Menu key, the options are not visible clearly, think its cos of the default theme of this ROM(Had updated the add-on package for this ROM too), only the items(Add,wallpaper,etc.,) are visible but the letters under it are not clear as the background is completely black.

Thank you for the effort you are putting in creating this extraordinary ROM’S which are extremely different than the official updates.
I have extraordinary rom 3.3 and the problem is that the battery doesn’t last more than half a day without even touching it. I’ve had more than 20 cycles of charging the battery on it with full charge and discharge also recalibrated the battery and still nothing.
I have charged last night until 20.00pm when it was full and this morning at 06.00am i have had 48% left. I didn’t touch it at all since last night.
The phone gives also lot’s of crashed, force closes on the LG home application….
Could you please tell me if the battery last longer on this 3.4 version….since 3.3 it is killing me.

Hi. I have upgraded as per instructions and my Galaxy is much better. But two things. First I have lost things like ThinkFree Office which comes installed by default. But also more worryingly the options menu now comes up with Black Text on a Black background which is nearly impossible to read. It there a way to fix this??

Thanks for the very clear instructions, followed every thing step by step. Rom has very nice interface but i am facing some issues.i even installed the add on.
after everything i got the 3G settings sent to my phone via my network provider and i installed them and the 3G symbol is showing next to the battery. I can browse the next from the phone.
but the problem is i cant setup my google/gmail account on the phone. After entering all my credentials i click next and it says checking the server and after along wait it says unable to connect to google server, and try again. And i also realized that during that process, data is being sent but not received.
I tried adding exchange server email and the same thing is happening.
So what i did is enter back to recovery mode, factory rest/wipe cache/ wipe partition. Installed the 3G setting again, able to browse but same problem.
I also realized that after installing the add on, my phone started going a bit mad, it restarts by itself and it is abit laggy.
I did follow every step carefully from upgrading the firmware version to rooting it and adding the rom on top of that.
I am really dissapointed as i am not even able to open market due to not being able to setup gmail.
Another thing is when i installed the added and setup everything via wireless network, i wanted to added the 3d gallery and marked mod etc, but i was asking me to install Busybox. market has busybox and busybox installer. was not sure which one so i tried busybox installer, installed the later version .19 i think and even after that it is still asking me to install busybox. so i installed the other busybox from the market andstill the same error.
How do i go about this.

Hello Neal I’ve noticed the battery life is not brilliant. The phone also says its charged. 100% but as soon as I unplug the charger it drops to 98%.There is also the odd blank screen when pressing the menu button

Works super fast without hanging at all!!! However, why are the menu options written in black font on the black backgroud, so that you can’t see anything at all! No one has actually addressed this problem, am I the only one, who has experienced this issue? I am a newcommer to this site and am getting confused readind all messages. As far as I understand, to upgrade the Galaxy S I9000 one has to replaced the internal ROM by a new one. Is this ROM sold by Samsung? Where one can buy it and at what price. Will the handset be still under warranty after being opened and the internal components replaced??

I thought that only the software could be updated using Samsung KIES, but now I see there is also a firmware upgrade possiblity. I would also like to know what is the “rooting” people mention on this site. Is there a place where a newcommer can get an explanation of all these terms used here and the procedures employed or upgrading. try clearing cache / wipe data and then apply the update again!
I am using an Arabic ROM JHJV8, is it possible to update these ROMs with ExtraOrdinary Rom or I just have to install a European firmware (XXJ##).

After the “EXTRAordinary_3.4.zip” was installed, I am not able to enter recovery mode anymore. The phone is stucked on boot screen with Galaxy S GT-i9000 logo and phone won’t boot. Any idea?

The only think I can do is to enter Download mode and update regular XXJVR 2.3.4 + root firmware and do this process again. But again, after the restart, phone won’t boot. Stuck on Galaxy logo, and recovery doesn’t work, download mode only. I have no clue what may cause this problem.
remove the battery and then retry turning ON the device, if the problem persists then kindly re apply the update
Tried everything, did not help.

I upgraded to v3.2 when it was offered through this site – I have just downloaded the XJR 2.3.4 it looks to be identical to what I downloaded at that time. Is this the case (it shows as XJQ in the about phone bits as per notes at that time) ??
If so, I presume I can just flash the 3.4 version ??

I don’t know what i did but for some time now when i open an application and i try going back to the home screen it keep going back n forth…ie black screen shows and the home screen try to load the widgets and it goes back n forth till i reboot it again..
please help me out..i really love this ROM..don’t want to go back to stock..Thanks

I just love this rom no issues at all,the phone is fast n smooth.The app effects on the screen are awesome
i am having a problem .. since i installed EO 3.4 when ever i put phone on charing it never gets charge complete 100%
it always give the message of charging complete on 97% or sumtimes 98% .. not more then that … i tried the other way too .. by switching off my phone then letting it charged completely .. but again the same problem …
it will take few charge cycles to stabilize the battery!

After applying this ROM, I’m not able to restore contacts. Neither from Titanium Backup, nor from Mcafee Mobile Security. I do not have a backup with google. Any ideas?
what is the error message?
There is no error message. Titanium Backup goes through the motions but my contacts have not been restored. Mcafee Mobile Security simply says ’0 of 1500 contacts restored’ after some time.
OK this ROM has too many issues. Neal, I want to change back to 3.3. But since this ROM doesn’t have the option to disable voodoo lagfix, can I still go ahead and use odin to install XXJVQ and then proceed to 3.3? Or do you suggest waiting for Extraordinary 3.5?

I did it successfully and was enjoying it so much the first day. But After that i have been facing problems. It is continuosly shutting down automatically and restarting again. some times it just turns off, and i have to take the battery out and then put it in again to make it work. Any solutions for that please ?
would you please please please reply my above query !!! It is turning off in every call after i did this, and after every 5 minutes or so ! Very troubled !
