Galaxy S I9000

How to Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with ICS 4.0.3 RC 3.0 Firmware

Galaxy S ICS New logoMore happy news follows for Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 users as an all new RC version of ICS has arrived which is dubbed as RC3 ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware version. Please note that this is not an official version of firmware released by Samsung Electronics and as per our close sources we understand that very soon an all new Value pack will be pushed to all the Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 phones on the similar lines of that of XXJVU firmware. This firmware build of RC 3 too doesn’t come with the goodness of all the stability fixes but most of the features are fixed and there are rarely any force close errors which we have encountered when tested this firmware. We really thank the developers that is Paul Forde who has made a huge contribution in rolling out this One Cosmic ICS Custom ROM. Last time we saw on how you can install the RC 2.1 ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware.

Disclaimer: At Android Advices, we have made sure in all respects that all the information regarding the firmware update is mentioned correctly in this article. We hold no responsibility in any manner just in case if any damage happens to your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000.

We will also see on what are the things which work in this version of release so that it will help you to decide on whether its worthy enough to update with or not. So, let’s get started with the things which work, list of pre requisites to be followed.

I have installed this update on my Galaxy S (I9000) and wonder where Samsung Kies USB connection has gone. I can connect via Wi-Fi but not USB cable.
I also noticed that my external SD card is not recognised in File Manager; any clues on either of these ?

    Please guide me…

    Hi Neal,

I just updated my phone and followed the steps to root it and it was successful. There is one problem I encounter. You mention in your post that it will take up to 15min for the ICS to complete, but when I do install it from my sd it loads in 2 seconds, gives me the screen CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.2. Then I click on reboot now and it goes back to the previous screen.

It happens with both ICS and then the phone don’t work. I have tried and re-install everything from the beginning of XXJVU up until ICS and still get the same.

    Please help me

The only Issue I have is the same one on rel cand 2.1 apps that you have bought or want to buy….. This can be fixed by going to your google account and resetting the creditcard info then it works fine.

This upgrade is not advisable for i9000 for the following reason. First, no folder of ‘my files’ so you wont be able to transfer the files from your external sd card to the phone itself. This firmware doesn’t have the capability to import the contacts to the phone since we all know it’s the same firmware as to the google nexus which has no micro sd card expansion thats why the firmware itself was not design to read data from an external sd. Also it has no fm radio. When i tried it, i was a bit surprise because it was almost perfect and working very smooth on my galay s. The music player has no genre but in fairness, voodoo sound control works. I tried to transfer the vcf files (contact files) from the micro sd to the phones internal memory, using a computer, and when i imported the vcf to the phone, only limited details appeared on the contacts. And one more thing, the video player is very limited on playing some files and when i downloaded the mx video player on the phone, it turned out to be laggish.
Some piece of advise to everyone. if you are using samsung galaxy s gt-i9000, it is best to stick to the gingerbread firmware for it was really made for this phone (firmware 2.3.6, baseband version xxjvt, build number xwjvz)

    • Mahmud Koya

      January 16, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Yes, as you said there were many bad issues with this FW. I went back to the ICS Android 4.0.1 build 13 which works perfectly on my SGS GT I9000 with all functionality.

    Hi Neela,

I have noticed that in your tutorials mistakely you have mentioned Volum down key instead of Volume up key for booting into recovery mode. By following that way people must be going in to download mode rather going into recovery mode.

    Hi Neela,

I am on stock ROM gingerbread 2.3.4 (XXJVS) can i root it and then directly apply ICS RC3 update directly from recovery mode.

Has the calling issue been resolved in RC3, which I had reported in previous versions of RC2 and RC2 that my caller does not listen my voice clearly but i can hear him clearly.

    • Pradeep Neela

      January 16, 2012 at 11:07 am

        Hi Neela,

My first query is still unanswered : “I am on stock ROM gingerbread 2.3.4 (XXJVS) can i root it and then directly apply ICS RC3 update directly from recovery mode.”

Can i go with this firmware or i have to install the suggestion firmware then root it and then update RC3.

    RC 3 works perfectly!

And for those who already have RC1 or RC2.1 it’s not necessary to wipe data and cache. You can just install zip from card – system will update and you’ll keep all of your programs and data.

    Hi Neela,
I tested and found it buggy! After a while the Market app also sopped working. I went back to ICS Android 4.0.1 build 13, which I feel better than this one. Why should we be first on xxjvu, after the updates the device shows the baseband xxjvt. Are these both based on xxjvt?
    Mahmud K

    • Pradeep Neela

      January 15, 2012 at 2:22 pm

      Hi Neela,

I also noticed this. What do we do if it goes back to xxjvt instead of staying on xxjvu?

I think that’s why some of the other users phones is not working when updating with RC3.1
