How to Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with ICS 4.0.3 RC1 Firmware
Quick Pre Requisites:
- Ensure that you have installed the MIUI Custom ROM as it is an MTD based ROM. Please note that if you are on any of the firmwares then you cannot update your device with this firmware.
- Assuming that you are already on the MIUI custom ROM, you need to ensure that you have taken a backup of all your data so as to just ensure that if any data is lost or corrupted, the same can be restored easily. With the help of below mentioned tips, you can easily backup or restore the data.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Disable all the Security Suites, Firewall tools and also the KIES PC Suite as these tools tend to interrupt the process of firmware update. Note that the device is left with the minimum of 60% battery charge so as to ensure that it doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
Special Instructions for Users on Custom ROMs:
If you have installed any Custom ROMs in your phone, then you need to first turn Off your phone to enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume Up Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. In recovery mode, select options “Wipe data/factory reset”, “Wipe Cache partition” and after this you need to also select “reboot system” so as to restart the phone.

well the article says to unzip.
Download the ICS Android 4.0.3 Complete Package in your computer and then you need to unzip the same. Once the folder is extracted, you will get to see a firmware Zip file which you need to copy the same in your phone. After this you need to disconnect the phone just in case if its still connected.

this firmware has improvements,but still got some major bugs which are:
1.Unable to download apps from the android market plus there is no given file manager with this firmware
2.Video recorder can’t record videos in 30 fps

If upgrade through ODIN is not possible? I have tried several times following the procedure dot by dot but still can’t. The phone tends to restart every second with red mark on android logo. no luck so far.
same happens with MIUI Custom ROM Firmware upgrade through this procedure. GB 2.3.6 was successfully upgraded and rooted with ODIN.

I have dropped ISC 4.0.3.. I dont get WIFI to work have put 2.3.6 and rooted the phone 3 times and put MIUI and then ICS and the WIFI Fix.. ICS work great, some issues with mail iva Exchange..

i have 1 question regarding this firmware. inside the keyboard choice window in settings there is a keyboard with chinese words on it and it is ticked but cant be unticked plus its running in back ground constantly and when i check the details it says it can read phone state, get internet access and get details from phone. can you explain what this app is and how can i delete it????

i flashed it it works great mostly every thing is working fine. huge battery improvement
but there is some minor bugs i want to share
first the video recording doesnt reach the 30 fps its at about 23fps which you feel that’s it little bit laggy
second when i tried quadrant to see its rating (standard quadrant ) there were great performance for the fps in every test but when it came to the rendering of the moon revolving around the planet the graphics were glitchy and very low fps at about 15fps and may be thats what is causing the video recording to be bad on 720p

No error message but go into system settings, accounts sync, add account, click on facebook and it takes you back to the synced accounts but without facebook or any options.
I have installed this rom successfully.Everything is working fine.

After this, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the ICS Zip file which you have placed in your phone. As soon as you select the file, it will take up to 15 minutes to apply this firmware update.

After updating everything works fine for me thanx a lot. But battery seems to be draining out too quickly. Its nt staying on more than a day.. Is it a known issue as Google said for Nexus ? Will there be any kind of fix for this ?

i didnt like this ROM,very laggy and i had touchscreen problems.i did a factory wipe and it got stuck in bootloop and the recovery mode not working very poor ROM
My SGS is working fine with this update of ICS RC1 except wifi. I had followed every steps and the steps advised by the others user for rectifying wifi issue. There is one other issue of incompatibity of my apps which were working smoothly earlier in froyo 2.2. Now it says it is incompatible with my decise on visiting android market.

No google maps,navigation
No zoom in camera
Force closes almost immediately you run a game like asphalt
Third party music app like mixzing force closes all the time
No labels when browsing through video files and images in gallery.
all in all this rom has to many foce closes,i hope they get rid of most of this bugs in the next update…

Is there a way to get notification like the numbers in the red balloon on the msg and phone in home screen. I can’t seem to find option for it. Also is the better notifications for the lock screen like in 2.3, I’m only getting a small text symbol in the notification bar.

I updated my SGS GT-I9000 with RC1 one week back and it seems that it is working good but i noticed that when someone calls me then after picking the phone i can hear the caller voice perfectly but on the otherside the caller has problem to listen my voice. earlier i thought it may be network issue. but later i intensionally check it while calling from my other mobile/landline then it confirms that there is some issue in RC1 of ICS.But when the same caller again calls me immediately then there is no such problem on either side.
Now intended to go for RC2.1 but while the reading the comments it feels that it is not the good time to go ahead for RC2.1.
So I request you to please advise/suggest what should be done or any fix is there for this problem.
