    HI
Sorry if this is duplicated – cant see my earlier posting here.
Im running amestris 3.5 on galaxy s (your tutorial Xtra Long battery amestris 3.5, sep 2011).
Im considering upgrading to amestris 7.1 (your tutorial Xtra Long Battery amestris ROM 7.1 Jan 2012).
Pre-req is XWJVZ. That has a pre-req of XXKPQ, but that refers to galaxy SL I9003.
    Is that correct?
    Thank you
    nomadic

    • Neela Pradeep

      March 13, 2012 at 10:26 pm

yes you can apply the firmware update

      • nomadic

        April 2, 2012 at 2:27 pm

I followed the instructions exactly and now my phone is dead.
I used odin to flash KPQ – it hung during the flash and I could not restart it. I tried removing the battery etc but the phone is dead, no 3-button combo. I cant get into download or recovery.
I queried whether the pre-reqs were correct in the tutorial because they referred to galaxy 1903 – you said I could apply them.
Have I now flashed a 1903 rom into my i9000?
Can u suggest how I can get my phone back?

to return back you need to follow the corresponding instructions of the version yuo wish to roll back to!

          • nomadic

            April 7, 2012 at 2:05 pm

You seem not to have understood my posting.
The phone was dead – would not power on, could not get into recovery – could not get into download mode.
It was not possible to go back to any version.
I had to send it to Samsung service.

The tutorial said install and root XWJVZ. The XWJVZ instructions had a pre-req which was a link to a tutorial to install XXKPQ, but that XXKPQ tutorial said it was for the Galaxy SL I9003????. You confirmed I should use it. The phone failed whern I flashed it.
Is that XXKPQ SL I9003 tutorial correct for a galaxy S GT I9000?
I wouold like to understand why the upgrade failed and what happened to my phone.

Hi I have update and rooted my Galaxy S with XWJW1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware. It all went very smoothly.

After that I tried to install this ROM. Followed all the instructions posted here very carefully. Now, in recovery mode i selected the “apply update from sd card” option to proceed with the ROM instalation, but the proccess is interrupted by the following error:

E: Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on the device).
    Installation aborted.

    Help please ?

Hi, I have read and followed all your instructions step by step but when I’m in recovery mode and select to install the ROM from the sd card the update proccess is interrupted by this error:

    \No space left on the device\ .

I have more then 3 GB of free space available on the phone. I have read on serveral forums that this problem is realted to the character length of the package. So, I renamed the ROM to \Ast.zip\ and tried again. Still won’t start the update process.

    Any suggestions ?

        Hi Neel,

I have the same issue. It forces closes when someone calls me, or when I am messaging someone. Lot of random force close issues. I also found that the system ROM is almost full with 4mb free. could this be the problem. I tried all cache clearing. even from recovery mode. still the problem persists. also the system rom remains the same. Can you help here.

    January 26, 2012 at 11:53 pm

    hi neal,

this is the most stable rom i’ve ever used and pretty fast too. like chetan above, i can’t tether my mobile connection. i get a very brief notice that ‘tethering or hotspot is active’ after which i get an ‘error’ message under ‘mobile ap’.

has this problem been sorted out?

apart from the above and the ‘lame’ iOS icons, i would rate this rom an 8 out of 10.

    thanks in advance!

Hi, I am very new to this and not that savvy with the technical side of things (lol).
I have the Galaxy S GT 19000 on O2 contract. I am constantly checking for updates on Kies, but it states that none are available, although I see that most others have upgraded their firmware? Mine is still 2.3.3 :-((
Also when I go to software update on the phone, it still tells me that there is no other update. If I update through other means, and something goes wrong, am I not invalidating my warranty with the phone? I have 1 more year with this one left on my contract with O2. Any advice will be gratefully received as I am getting fed up with the current firmware.
    Cheers

Sorry to be a pain, but just to make sure I have this correct. Although I am currently on XXJVU, I need to:

    Install XWJVZ Firmware first
Then Semaphore Kernel for XWJVZ Firmware
    Finally, the Amestris ROM v7.1

    Is that correct?
