How To Update Samsung Galaxy S I9000 to Official Gingerbread DDJV9 2.3.3 Firmware

Future Beyond LogoFor all those who are from India and own Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000, now you all have a great news as in this article we will see on how you can update your phone with the official update of Gingerbread which is India or Asia specific that is 2.3.3 DDJV9. Previously we saw on how you can update your phone with this version from moving to other downgrade version and then we saw on how to get an automatic update from the KIES 2 platform. But now we will see on how you can update with this version directly without moving from your existing version of firmware to some other version of firmware. The India or Asia specific version is dubbed as the DDJV9 2.3.3 Gingerbread and is the official KIES 2 Release, but we will see on how to update with the help of Odin and not with the KIES.

Samsung Galaxy S

Please note that if you have installed the other firmwares like XXJVQ, XXJVP etc. and have rooted the same, then after updating with this firmware of DDJV9 then the rooting access of your device will be revoked and your device will be back as the normal device without the rooting access. The biggest advantage by updating with this firmware is that you will be on the official version and the warranty can be reclaimed by you for your device if your device is in the warranty period. In the due course of this article we will see the pre upgrade instructions followed by the enhancements or updates in this version of Gingerbread along with the instructions to update the Galaxy S GT I9000 with the Gingerbread DDJV9 2.3.3. The best part of this update is that irrespective of on what firmware you are on currently that is on Eclair 2.1 or even Froyo 2.2, 2.2.1 or say in any Gingerbread 2.3.3 version, you can directly proceed for the firmware update for your Galaxy S just by following the below procedures carefully. Please note that this is only applicable for GT I9000 Samsung Galaxy S model and if flashed to any other model then you will brick your device.

In this firmware update, the frequent force close error issues are solved which some of the users faced for some applications and other issues are also solved which includes the lagging of the overall interface of the phone. So, let’s proceed and see on how you can easily update your Galaxy S GT I9000 with the latest update of DDJV9 2.3.3. Just follow the below mentioned procedure to avoid problems and just in case if due to any issues the software update refuses to happen due to power failure than just re try the whole procedure from start and never try to manually interrupt the updation process as this may harm your device. Also, updating this firmware in any manner will not void the warranty or spoil the phone as long as you are following every single instruction which is mentioned below. Please note that in any manner that is in part or in whole we can’t be held responsible for anything and this firmware is not recommended for all those whose phones are network locked.
Note: Please note that you will have to reconfigure the APN settings after updating the firmware to access the data services and the Internet services as all the Internet APN settings will be reset. You will have to contact your Service provider to get more info on the APN Settings or alternatively you too can make a note of it. Not to forget also configure the MMS Settings or take down the MMS Settings as this too will need to be re configured after the rooting process. Also, we take no responsibility if you download the files and apply the below procedure to root your phone.

        Hi Neal

I am in India and have the latest official ROM from Samsung with details given below:
        Model number: GT-I9000
        Firmware version: 2.3.3
        Baseband version: I9000DDJV5
        Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9000DDjv9-CL312456 root@SE-S605 #2
        Build number: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9

I am happy with the OS and also liking the fact that it renders all Indian fonts beautifully.

I simply want to give my phone a speed boost.
Do I need to root my phone and then increase the CPU speed (overclocking)? Will Voodoo be used in this (though I dont know what it does)?

Could you please give me steps as to how to root the phone and increase its speed without having to apply another custom ROM which may remove Indian fonts and also free apps like Thinkfree Office.

Your step-by-step process with links to downloads and preferred Market downloads would be highly appreciated.

        Tks
        Gaurav

    hi neal
could u please through some light on….
i just flash my device with darky rom extreme edition 10.2 now i want to restore stock rom.
    i am bit confuse regarding re-partition & lag-fix.
i know that lag fix should be disable while flashing any stock rom.
but what about repartition in some rom flashing guide it is advised to use check re partition while in some guide it is mentioned that we should un-check re-partition
also want to ask what is the use of pit file.

    • NeaL Pradeep

      September 25, 2011 at 11:58 pm

go to recovery mode, select advanced and choose the disabling of the lagfix, dont select repartition in odin and to come on the Stock update with XXJVS 2.3.5

Thanks for article. Now I can access Marathi / Hindi script on Samsung Galaxy S.

I have installed DDJV9 firmware on my earlier JPJPA firmware. I used modem file (I9000JXJPB_CL586625_Phone.tar.md5) from JPJPA because when I used modem file provided in DDJV9, signal quality was very poor in Saudi Arabia.

Also I used 512 pit file without reparation option. At first look seem everything is fine. If any update I will post it here.

I want to use Droid India Font on XXJVQ. If I update to XXJVQ, I lose my India fonts which I have got after a long wait in DDJV9? Actually, I tried to install XXJVQ and then pasted Droid India font from DDJV9 after roring the XXJVQ phone, so that I can get high performance and speed of XXJVQ and Indian languges (I have tried Marathi, Hindi, Gurmukhi, Malyalam, Tamil, Telugu and Bangla etc.) from DDJV9, but that didn’t work. I saw only the rectangular boxes. When I renamed Droid India font to DroidSansFallback and replaced the original DroidSansFallback Font in XXJVQ, it gave me the errors in choti e ki matra and half letters in Hindi. Can you give some other solution so that I have XXJVQ but am able read Indian scripts correctly on my phone?

Will XXJVR 2.3.4 enable me to read Hindi and other Indian scripts normally without playing around with fonts folder? If I rename Droid India from DDJVN as DroidSansFallback and put it in XXJVQ, choti e ki matra and half letters all get spoiled.

You mean XXJVQ doesn’t support some fonts…? What do you think if I add Droid India Font to it and replace Droid Sans Fallback Font in XXJVQ with that from DDJV9?

        • NeaL Pradeep

          July 31, 2011 at 1:16 am

no, as these are stock ROMS this version doesn’t come with more language support fonts! NO, dont do that as this will corrupt the fonts!

        • Sanjeev Gupta

          August 5, 2011 at 1:05 am

So I have to be stuck with slow and battery draining DDJV9, if I have to read Indian languages on my Galaxy S. Let me if ever you get a work around for reading Hindi fonts properly on XXJVR or XXJVQ. If I rename Droid India as DroidSansFallback, I can read Hindi but with distortions referred to above.

          • NeaL Pradeep

            August 5, 2011 at 10:45 am

as of now Indian languages are not supported but as soon as this support arrives we will surely come up witht he article!

Oh, I fixed it. It looks like this version gives you option of choosing connection parameters, media or data, which I think previous version did not have. Meaning if you are playing thru bluetooth speakers and you have an incomming call, it will not routed thru speakers.
      Good show!

what about .pit and repartition. After unziping the zip file you have mentioned 5 files cse, code ,modem, odin and pit but in screenshot no pit file ,but document impotant read me is shown. Also in file selection in odin, only 3files pda, modem and cse are selected and nothing about .pit and repartition was mentioned this time.Earlier jvo jvp or jvq were flashed with .pit without repartition
    Thanks in advance for clarification
