Galaxy R LogoSpeculation is ON about the latest ICS Android 4.0 firmware release for Samsung Galaxy R I9103 as while some say that it has been leaked from the Official sources while some say that it’s just another form of the custom ROM firmware. Whatever it is, at the end of the day it’s the ICS Android 4.0 firmware upgrade for Galaxy R I9103, so in the due course of this article we will be checking out on how you can apply this update in your device with the help of some simple instructions which we will be checking out in this article. This custom ROM firmware is dubbed as Galaxy ROYALE. Full credits to the XDA developer ‘cooleagle’ for coming up with this firmware update.

As of now this update is not yet officially pushed via KIES and also we don’t have any ETA on by when there will be an Official update. Also, unfortunately there won’t be any jellybean 4.1 firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy R I9103 which SAMSUNG has made it clear. Over a period of this article we have mentioned the  screen captures on how this custom ROM firmware looks like, detailed pre requisites and also followed by which we have mentioned a detailed guide on how to apply this. In the last few days too we saw some custom ROM firmwares.

Disclaimer: Neither we, nor developer should be held responsible for any damage happened to your device in the process of following the instructions mentioned in this article. It’s very unlikely that there will be any issues but just in case if at all there are any issues then we are committed to help you in solving the same.

Pre Requisites:

  • Before proceeding ensure that you are on the rooted firmware, to check download the “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store and check on whether the device is rooted or not. If the device is not rooted, then you will have to root the same and also you will have to install the ROM Manger app from the Google App Store.
  • Now, download the EMMC Brick Bug app from here to your computer from the Google PLAY Store in your computer. Once downloaded, run the same in your device.

  • Don’t backup the data with the help of Samsung KIES, backup all the data with the help of manually steps mentioned below. This is because this update of ICS hasn’t been released officially and also custom / beta firmwares are not detected in the KIES.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Enable the USB Debugging in your Samsung Galaxy R I9103 from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. Also, ensure that the minimum battery charge left is not less than 40% so as to make sure that it doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

As soon as you have followed all the above mentioned instructions carefully, you can now head over to the next page where we have summed up a detailed guide on how to apply this firmware update.

  1. Hi guys,

  2. How has your experience with 4.0.4 been on the Samsung i9103?

  3. Why is it that my comment don’t show up on this page? I had a problem when upgrading to ICS after following the instructions in this article.

  4. The link provided to download ICS 4.0.4 package gives 2 files like *.7z.001 and *.7z.002. On extracting the *.7z.001 file a folder is created by the name 2012-08-16.20.07.20. Under this folder there is a 2012-08-16.20.07.20.rar file. I placed this .rar file at /sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/ location and rebooted phone in recovery mode. Did factory reset, cleared cache but when I went on to select the zip file from SD card it didn’t show up so I had to then create a 2012-08-16.20.07.20.zip file instead of a .rar file and place it at the above mentioned path. This time in the recovery mode it did find this .zip file. But now when I select this .zip file the message that are displayed are like
    1. installing /sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/2012-08-16.20.07.20.zip
    2. finding update package…
    3. opening update package…
    4. installing update…
    5. installation aborted.
I had followed all the steps mentioned in the article. Any suggestions?
