How To Update Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G with Official XWKJ2 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware
Procedure to Update Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100G with Gingerbread XWKJ2 2.3.6 Firmware:
- Download XWKJ2 Firmware from here to your computer. Extract the same to your computer, in the process of extraction it will prompt you for the password. Enter the password as sampro.pl.
- Once the files are extracted, you need to open the Odin from the extracted files as shown below.
- After opening Odin, turn Off your phone to enter your phone in the download mode. The download mode can be entered by pressing Volume down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. Refer below Video for more.
- As soon as you enter download mode, with the help of Original USB cable connect the Galaxy S2 with computer after which the drivers will first be installed followed by which the ID : COM section in Odin will turn yellow which means that all the drivers are now ready.
- Click on “PDA” tab to select the file “I9100GXWKJ2_I9100GODDKJ2_I9100GDDKI1_HOME.tar.md5″ which you will get in the extracted files and click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update. Once you click on “Start”, the process of firmware update will begin. It will take around 15 minutes for the firmware update to get completed.
- Note: If the firmware update gets stuck in the middle then you need to reinsert the battery to start the firmware update.
- Once the firmware is updated successfully, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
- To check whether the firmware has been successfully applied or not, you need to go to the path “Applications > Settings > About Phone” where you will find the firmware version as XWKJ2 2.3.6 Gingerbread version.
Tips for Users facing Force Close ERRORS:
- Just in case if you are facing issues after applying this firmware, unplug the phone and then turn Off your phone so as to enter the phone in the recovery mode. You can enter recovery mode by holding the Volume UP key and then press the Power ON button simultaneously. In the recovery mode screen, you need to select “Wipe Data / factory reset” and “Wipe Cache Partition” which will clear off all the data which is stored in the phone.
So, that’s it you have now successfully updated your device with the Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware. Do let us know in the comments section just in case if you face any issues.

you cant update via OTA as its not yet available via OTA!
But as i wrote above, i have already updated this firmware with the help of above method and it was the update package of 30mb and then after reboot my phone shows the android version 2.3.6 .

clear the cache from the recovery mode!

That’s a decent post. what i am really looking for is some process to root I9100GDDKI1 build XWKJ2. i’ve tried looking around a bit. but this firmware i believe is india centric and only for the newly marketed G series with the PowerVR GPU’s.
it would be great if someone can come up with the rooting process for the same.

I have one more question. Some people say that there i9100g never exceed 1008mhz of speed but mine is showing 1200mhz so will this firmware also give me 1200mhz. The only reason that I want to upgrade my firmware is that I am experiencing force close in the camera sometimes and I have to restart my mobile to make it work. And can I save my current firmware incase I want to recover it if I want to.

Please i need this ver 2.3.6 for updating my i9100 g 2.3.4. But unfortunately i cant unzip. After every time i unzip it give erorr and resulting folder is empty. i give the proper password for unzipping as u mention. sampro.pl. i also try to download this 3 times but every time it gives an error on unzipping. please help.

i have installed custom version 2.3.6 I9100GDZKK1 using ODIN, The problem is my phone hang alot, alot of force close, sometime camera error. and the main thing is the battery drain so quick. in my Battery status almost 48% battery drained by android OS.
Please help me with this issue in detail.

i mentioned my stat above for my sgs2 i9100G. what is procedure if i want install mmy factory installed firmware again. my phone is another major problem when i writing sms or any other chat using keypad. it stuck for 2,3 sec and then i endup on the home screen and all the txt i typed are gone, i written 3 pages of txt and gone..

Peter here from the Philippines. I recently got the S2, a gray unit. Based on the IMEI, i think its from SG/MY region. I can’t update via OTA or Kies (not supported device error).
The phone code is – I9100GDZKH5. Questions are:
1) Will there still be a 2.3.6 update for this model / region?
2) Is the error I’m getting because there is no official release yet for Samsung?
3) Is Samsung going to transition the S2 model globally into the G model or only for a certain region?

I have installed this on my i9100G, but now when i connect with Kies, it dose not allow back-up nor does it allow upgrade.
So i did a complete Factory reset, with complete wipe of data. still i am not able to connect with kies.

Currently i am on XWLA1, when my phone is connected to Kies, it shows new updates downloaded. But Kies shows your device dose not support Software upgrading by kies.
My device was purchased in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, hence i feel i must have india based firmware, for it to be synced by kies.
Please update / support me in ensuring my phone can be supported by Kies.

Great article man… very good info.. But i’m having little doubt’s can you please solve them..
1. My dad got me a Sam galaxy S2 from Saudi (KSA) so when i connected it to kies it says this is the original update (2.3.4) available firmware and it is in ksa not in india so do think it wise if i flash it with an indian update p.s at the moment i live in India.
2. should i enable USB Debuggin before i update to 2.3.6
3. Its march 1st still no sign of ics lol looks like that German dude couldn’t get the date right

2. Since i update the firmware i went to kies to check if the KSA is turned to IND.. it didn’t and it says “Your device does not support software upgrading via kies” (I thought this might be a really huge problem cuz i’m using the G-Version the only way i can update ics for g is by kies) i hope and i beg you please write an article how to update ics for g version using odin..

hello pradeep..i’m having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2 9100G version..i keep getting stuck on “Deleting Cryption Meta Data” and it won’t boot beyond it..i’ve tried flashing it with the firmware, it “PASS” in Odin, but when it reboots, it’s stuck on the screen with a box with green android and a text below it saying “Deleting Cryption Meta Data”..i can’t get into recovery mode..i can only get into download mode..any suggestion?
