How To Update Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 to Gingerbread JPKP5 2.3.4 Firmware

SL I9003 LogoSamsung Galaxy SL I9003 can now take out their devices out to update their phones with the native and stable Gingerbread 2.3.4 version which almost comes nearly with no bugs. After so many days of thorough testing and feedback from our close sources, this firmware has been found to be one of the most stable releases. So, in the due course of this article we will see on how you can safely update your phone with this version. This all new Gingerbread 2.3.4 version is dubbed as JPKP5 and since it’s a global release, anyone with their Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 can proceed with the update.

Please note that this firmware update which is dubbed as Gingerbread 2.3.4 JPKP5 is not the official release from the Samsung and is the beta release which is leaked from our sources. Also, please note that it has been found of late that most of the users are applying the update of I9000 in SL I9003 phones, please note that doing so you might end up either bricking up the phone which may or may not be the reversible. Irrespective of the current firmware which you are on can proceed to follow this article for updating to Gingerbread JPKPS 2.3.4 version.

Rooting Information:
Please note that in any manner the phone will not be rooting in the process of firmware update. Also, if you have already rooted the phone before then you will have to note that the rooting access will be revoked as soon as this update is applied on the phone.

Just in case if you wish to un root the device then this is the best firmware to apply with as this come up with the bootloader after applying with which you will be able to claim back the warranty with Samsung Electronics. Also, you will be happy to hear that Gingerbread 2.3.5 for Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 is in the making, as soon as it’s launched we will be covering an article for the same only at AndroidAdvices.com, so stay tuned for the same.

For your convenience, we have splitted this article into different pages and also over a period of time we will see on what are the enhancements which come along with this firmware update, pre requisites which you need to follow before proceeding for the update and also then after that we will see on how you can apply this update on your phone.

Since it’s not an official update, the same will be applied with the help of the Odin flash tool and not with the help of the KIES 2 which is the official tool via which Samsung rolls out the firmware update. Though there is no ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) on when the official release will be done, we can only hope that it will be pushed as soon as possible. Not to worry even if you apply this update, you will be getting the update via KIES, if not then we will for sure guide you with the same.

Disclaimer:
Please note that we should not be held liable or responsible in any manner if anything wrong happens to your device which is the most unlikely if you follow the instructions as prescribed in the due course of this article and also apply the mentioned update only on Samsung Galaxy SL I9003.

I upgraded my I9003 to JPKP5 about 4 months ago and have had no problems since.
However, when I recently connencted it to KIES, I found out that my ‘Device does not support upgrading via KIES’.
I am therefore unable to upgrade my phone to the official DDKP2. Can anyone help me? Also, can someone please tell me the major advantages/disadvantages of DDPK2 over JPKP5.
Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hallo
i picked up my gt-i9003 from the service center and they had installed the gingerbread JPKP5. it worked fine for about 2 hours..but know if i m not using the phone for more the 10 – 20 minutes, it then proceeds to behave as if its rebooting but then reaches the Samsung graphics logo and goes on an endless loop. i then have to hold down the power button for like 10seconds for it to reboot properly and i get the same language selection and everything goes back on default….please help!
    thanks

    • http://twitter.com/pradeepneela NeaL Pradeep

when you picked the phone from service centre which was the version? have you installed the XXKPH version? If not then install the same!

      • fans

when i picked it. the info was:
        firmware version: 2.3.4
        base band version: i9003JXKP3
        Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-CL482273 ROOT@DELL 149#1
        Build number: Gingerbread :JPKP5
I have never currently installed XXKPH VERSION. should i install it..? and can you send me the link to it..?

        • fans

i tried the update XXKPH. but the problem was still there, i then proceeded to connect my phone on to samsung kies. there was an update. i installed the update
          Firmware version 2.3.5
basband version i9003 XXKPM. but the problem was still there. i came to the conclusion that the problem isn’t with the software but the hardware. i will be taking the phone back to the service center to see if i can get it replaced. thanks a lot for the help you gave me. have a good day.

    Hi Neal,

I have updated my Galaxy I9003 with Gingerbread_2.3.4_I9003JPKP5. It was working fine without any bug. But suddenly today i got a force close popup for notification window & after that my notification window was not working. I tried restarting the mobile but of no use. My home screen ( ” Only Samsung screen is visible “) is taking more than 15 mins to load but during that time, phone is working ( i can get the incoming call notification )…..Is there any other way to recover from it. I think phone is taking more time to load because it is trying to load the notification bar. Can i restore the mob without flashing it again ( I don’t want to loose all my installed applications ).Sometimes my network is also getting disconnected often…… Please help me dude….

    Regards// S. Santhosh

        Hi Neal,
I did a hard reset and issue got resolved. Also rooted my phone. But one thing i’am not able to take the phone to recovery mode at all.. Every time when i follow the process, the screen turns blank & once i remove my fingers from the button, my phone reboots normally. I have seen few other peoples in the forum who have experienced the same issue. Two questions here
        1. Is there any other method to erase the cache other than taking it to recovery mode
        2. Is it necessary to clear the cache after rooting the phone?

        • http://twitter.com/pradeepneela NeaL Pradeep

no, its only from the recovery mode!
yes its necessary or else you will get force close errors!

    1. WiFi not working – it just shows Error when I enable it from Setting > Wifi Settings and stays in the same state .. I can’t even disable it

    2. Android market app is behaving wierd – sometimes it connects (using gprs) and most of the times it gives connection time out

Please let me know any solutions for the above two issues I am facing …

OK, finally I got it to work. If someone has this problem: you should root your device and (more or less) follow these steps for emulator : . Basically you need this sip.voip xml file in the system permissions folder

I want an android phone which should manage to give me backup for 2 days with pushmail services on and 40mins to 1hr of calling per day. Can you tell me which phone can offer this in 15 to 18k range?

    • http://twitter.com/pradeepneela NeaL Pradeep

you can go with Galaxy SL I9003 as it comes with LCD display which consumes lesser battery than AMOLED one and also it has 1650 mah battery. Regarding the 2 days battery life, there is no android phone which can hold charge for that long! but yes if your internet usage is minimal then you may get just above a day!
