How To Update Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 to Gingerbread JPKP5 2.3.4 Firmware

Pre Upgrade Instructions:
Create a backup of all the data like SMS as well as Contacts which are generally stored in the phone’s memory. Also, you will have to ensure that other data like Applications, Songs, Videos etc. are moved to the external SD card or else there is a high probability that you may end up losing the data.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log –  Call Log and Restore
Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • After this you also will have to ensure that the phone is charged to a minimum of 75% of battery life. As the updation process requires an extra battery backup, so ensure that you have maximum possible battery backup.
  • The PC that you will use to update should be at least have the Windows XP / Vista / 7 operating system and now because of technical limitations of the tool Odin Flash does not support Mac / Apple. In addition, make sure that the USB ports are at least 2.0 or USB can you get the error from the USB port that can only be overcomed using different PC with capabilities beyond the PC or upgrading with the minimum of the USB 2.0
  • Never proceed to update phone if you are unable to enter into the download mode. If you still proceed without entering into the download mode then there is a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone for which we should not be held responsible for.

Most importantly you need to have ADMIN privileges along with the full access of the USB Read / Write access so that all the data can be read / written from / to the phone. Before proceeding close the softwares like KIES / Antivirus Suites / Firewall tools completely so as to avoid from firmware update failure message.

Special Instructions to users on Custom ROMs:

  • So, once you are done with the above instructions, you will have to follow the below mentioned ones too.
  • Just in case if you have rooted the phone and also have installed any of the custom ROMs then you will have to get into the recovery mode first. The recovery mode can be entered by first turning off the phone and then pressing the Volume Up key + Menu key and then Power On the device.
  • So, once you are into the recovery mode, you will see that there will be many options out of which you need to first choose “Wipe data / factory reset” and then followed by the option of “Wipe Cache Partition”.
  • Additionally, if your kernel also has any Voodoo components then you will have to ensure that these are completely disabled or else it will hamper the installation process. Generally it is found in the “Advanced” option in recovery mode. Once you do this, you will now have to select the option of “Go Back” and need to choose the option of “rebooting system now”. There you go you will now be booting into the normal mode.
