Over a period of time, users are facing severe issues with all the recent firmware releases which Samsung had released unofficially and considering the fact that all other devices are fast pacing the updates, there is an urgent need for a stable update of Gingerbread for the Samsung Galaxy SL I9003. And here we come with the update of the latest Gingerbread 2.3.5 for Samsung Galaxy SL I9003. It was the last time when we saw Gingerbread XXKPH 2.3.4 version of firmware and now in the due course of this article we will see on how to update with the much advanced XXKPM Gingerbread 2.3.5 version of firmware. The happy news is that this XXKPM version of firmware is the first ever Gingerbread 2.3.5 for SL I9003 Galaxy variant.

Special Instructions to users on Custom ROMs:
Recently at Android Advices, we saw different custom ROMs for Galaxy SL I9003 smart phone and since you have experienced issues related to the back key you might just want to apply this. So, before proceeding to apply this procedure, you will have to first turn off your phone. Now, press the Volume Up key + Menu key and then pressing the former two keys you need to power ON the device after which you will see the recovery screen.
Once you enter into the recovery mode, you will have to select the options like “Wipe data/factory reset”, “Wipe Cache partition” after which select the option of “reboot system now” so that all the cache data gets cleaned from your phone.
After this you will have to proceed to the list of pre requisites which are mentioned below.
- Before proceeding ensure that you have charged your phone to the minimum of 60% so as to ensure that the phones doesn’t get turned Off in the process of the firmware update. Most of the users tend to skip this step and end up even facing battery issues after applying the update.
- After this you need to create a backup of all the data present in your phone so that the same can be restored just in case if any data is lost in the process of the firmware update. You can refer to the below mentioned tips on how to backup and restore contents in your phone.
Text messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Phone Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Pictures, Music, Videos, Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Note: Please don’t use the KIES tool to create the backup as since it’s a beta update, after updating with this firmware KIES won’t be supporting the phone and hence the backup cannot be restored.
- We will be using the Odin flash tool for applying this update and not the KIES tool, so close all the softwares like antivirus, firewall tools and also close the KIES completely as these tools tend to interrupt the process of the firmware update. Also, in your phone enable the USB debugging. The USB Debugging can be turned On from the path Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Ensure that the USB Debugging option is ticked.
This firmware update neither requires you to root the device not applying this firmware will be rooting the device. Just in case if you have rooted the device then the rooting access will be revoked and you will have to again root the device for which we will soon come up with the article.
