How To Update Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 to Stable Froyo 2.2.1 Firmware
For all Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 owners now you can go back to the Stock Froyo 2.2.1 version which is not only stable but also is the official firmware along with the best battery backup in the Froyo. Apart from the name which is the Froyo everything else is great in this if compared to the Gingerbread as in the latest Gingerbread version which we saw last time was really a buggy one and also since most of the users wanted to go back to the Stock (default) version which is the Froyo 2.2.1 version. Most of the Galaxy SL I9003 has the current official version as DDKB2 which was the out of the box version and it was very unfortunate that most of the Gingerbread versions which were launched or released in the beta ROMs drive were buggy.
So, let’s proceed and see on how you can directly move to the stable version by following the simple set of instructions which we will see in the due course of this article. Please note that we have made sure from our side cent percent that all the files which you download from androidadvices.com are virus free and safe. Unlike most of the other forums which don’t carry out these tests before uploading any files in their servers, we ensure that all the mentioned files are correct. It has been repeatedly found that most of the users don’t follow the instructions which are mentioned in the article which is highly risky as it may even brick the device completely which may not be reversible in some cases.
Please note that this update is only meant for the phone with the model number Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 and not for any other similar looking models or similar sounding models like Samsung Galaxy S I9000M or Captivate, Mesmerize or even other phones like Vibrant etc. If you still proceed to update the device then you may even end up bricking up your phone or some keys won’t be responding as per the functions which these keys are meant to do.
Make a note that once the firmware is successfully upgraded then you will have to reconfigure the APN settings after updating the firmware to access the data services and the services as all the Internet APN settings will be reset. You will have to contact your Service provider to get more info on the APN Settings. Not to forget also configure the MMS Settings. Also, we hold no responsibility if anything goes wrong which is an unlikely event if anything goes wrong.
In any manner that is in part or in whole we can’t be held responsible for anything which happens with your phone and this firmware is not recommended for all those whose phones are network locked. So lets proceed for the Pre requisites of this firmware and also the procedure to update your Galaxy SL I9003 with this Froyo update of DDKB2 Froyo 2.2.1.

Neal,
Please correct the title, it says I9000.

Neel, Will loading back the 2.2.1 version get back the device to as it was original from Samsung (Not Rooted state) ? My company does not allow rooted devices into their network. If it will not then what do I do to get it to its original state without visiting the Samsung service center. Thanks.

It was 2.2.1 Froyo out of the box and i want to go back to unrooted state of 2.2.1.
I tried flashing with DXKB2 update form this site as per instructions but the mobile does not start after reboot. It reports all the process one by one saying could not start and mobile reboots again and again.
you need to update with XXKPH version of firmware!
My firmware is DXKB2 and claimed as the latest version by KIES. This one is DDKB2.
Which oneis better?

Tried clearing cache?
I am also getting the same problem as reported by Kshitiz. I have cleared the cache, as explained in the article.
Every time, I clear cache and re-boot, the first photo works. After that, I get a black/blank screen, and the camera application force closes.
Any help to solve this?

Hi Neal,
It worked like a dream, thank you!!
I was ready to throw my phone away because it was locking up almost every time I tried to use it. Fingers crossed the phone appears to be working better than when I first bought it.
Good, clear instructions, and not as painfull a process as I had anticipated. Thanks again,
Roy
thanks roy for your feedback
Neal I have a couple of questions you may be able to answer:
1. The RAM useage appears to be much higher than before………… i was using around 200MB before, now about 340MB….. with only 3 running services – OmaDrnConfiigService, SNsService and Swype – is this higher RAM useage a feature of this software version?
2. Is it possible to kill the screen capture utility altogether? I find that sometimes when I press the Home button the phone takes a screenshot. I have seen a lot of people ask the same question on other forums but there has been no definitive answer. Would a task killer do the job, if so which would you recommend?
All in all though I am now very satisfied with my Galaxy!
Roy
1. yes due to some active services which come in after you download some other apps apart from the stock ones,
2. you can make use of task killer apps from Android Market place!
Hi Neal – help!
My phone was great for 24 hours then the original fault reappeared……….. I am locked out of the phone – I can not get past the swipebar. I have done a clear cache and a factory reset, from recovery mode – the phone seems ok until I press the power key to put the phone into standby – when I press it again I can not get into the phone.
I have a theory – but no proof – that unwanted advertising MMS messages may have somehow corrupted the phone………they are from my network provider here in Dubai……….I went to see them but they say they have no knowledge of sending me MMS messages – the messages come in, around 100kB and show as “downloading” but they do not actually download – it is after receiving one of these that my phone locked up today. I only got problems with my phone after moving here 3 weeks ago and getting my new SIM card.
Does this sound plausible? If not, any ideas? When the phone is working it is perfect – so it seems to me that the firmware is getting corrupted.
As an experiment I’ll try using the phone with my old SIM card after doing another factory reset, but meantime I’d welcome your thoughts – even if it is only a way to block incoming MMS messages.
Roy
Update to my last………………. I reinstalled version 2.2.1 as per the instructions and Odin reported a “pass” – I then cleared the cache and did the factory reset – as soon as I rebooted the phone I got the on-screen setting page but the display is frozen. After turning to idle, using the power key, a few times, I could get into the phone – but after a few times it freezes again. Could this be a hardware issue?
Thanks,
Roy
are you facing this issue with all the versions? On which version you are ON?
I am on the latest download from Samsung, via Kies……….. it prompted me last night that new firmware was available…..
DDKF1, GGKC1, DDKA6, build Wed Jun 1…………………. BUT this is wierd Neal….. this morning the phone was more or less bricked but after trying many times to open the phone I succeeded and managed to connect to the wireless server at work…… I logged onto google/gmail and also Marketplace, where I downloaded Skype. NOW the phone is running lightning fast – opens immediately and apps appear instantly…………. I have tried a normal power down and a re-boot from recovery mode and it is acting perfectly…………… I have had 12 apps running and RAM was 271………… with all closed it is 208 – same or better than before…… whatever happened after I got on Wi-Fi obviously worked.
So for now I’ll stick with Froyo – next I’ll try my original SIM card and see if the MMS messages were causing an issue.
Roy
I also just looked at running services – for the first time since my phone started playing up, the screen capture service is not loaded – and now it is behaving itself – how wierd.
Hi Neal – well I am at a loss here………… the phone has acted beautifully for almost 2 days and I thought it was cured…… I put it to standby about a few housr ago and after 30 minutes tried to open the screen – it was locked – tried pressing the home button, menu button, all permutations of buttons – it refused to let me swipe the slider to reveal the desktop.
The only way I could recover it was by removing the battery and leaving it out for 10 minutes.
Any ideas what might be going on? Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and GSM/WCDMA were disabled, with only a few apps running in the background.
Thanks,
Roy
Finally! The problem turned out to be a faulty sensor on the back key — they replaced the complete screen assembly. Phone now working fine.
Thank you for all your help.
Roy
Hi Neal,
Currently I am using android gingerbread on my samsung galaxy SL I9003. I had downloaded this gingerbread firmware(“GalaxySL_I9003XXKP7.zip”) from a download link given in one of your article regarding update to gingerbread. Now I want to go back to 2.2.1 as I am having terrible experience of gingerbread so which is the latest stable version of android 2.2.1 for I9003. I think you have written different articles on downgrading to 2.2.1. In first you have provided firmware “I9003XWKB1-AAD.zip” and in another i.e in this current one you have given “GalaxySLI9003_DDKB2_2.2.1.zip” which one I should downgrade to or is there any other latest stable version on 2.2.1 I should look for.
Thanks,
Sandeep
you can update with the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update!
Yes, if I am not wrong you wrote the post “Update Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 to Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXKP7″ http://androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-sl-i9003-gingerbread-233-xxkp7/ for updating to gingerbread.
I followed this but it is very unstable, my handsets goes to downloading mode automatically.
Thats why I want to downgrade it so which version of 2.2.1 should I go for.
Thanks,
Sandeep
Sorry, I didn’t read your suggestion properly and I thought you are asking from where I updated to gingerbread.
From where could I update to updated 2.3.4 and is the updated version stable?
Thanks,
Sandeep

My phone got hangup while I’m playing Grave defense HD, and I can’t open my unit. It will load the splash screen of Samsung but it did’nt load my applications, it hangs only in Samsung logo. Please advise. Thank you
there is an issue with that game as its not supporting some firmwares! wait for an update for that game!
can we get updates via kies after this firmware installed? n did i need to go through some procedure?
yes you can apply the update via kies!
just nw i connected to kies n it says that ” this version of firmware is not original. And no firmware UPDATES for unofficial firmwares”
you will need to update via Odin and not via KIES!
but last time when i downgraded to this firmware it gave me the legal update version of firmware nearly 25 days ago… today i downgraded from JPKP5 so its not giving it today…. so plz suggest some remedies…..
are you trying through KIES? If yes it wont recognize the JPKP5 version as its a beta version of firmware!

YOU CAN APPLY WITH THE DDKPG Update,
http://androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-sl-i9003-official-gingerbread-235-ddkpg-firmware/
after i downgrade to ddkb2 (i’m now on ddkpg), will i be able to upgrade firmwares via kies? or do i always have to use odin?
i faced wi fi connectivity issues after i upgraded to ddkpg via odin… and kies said that firmware upgrade was not supported… if i downgrade, will these issues be solved? please note that after upgrading to ddkpg, my wifi kept disconnecting in 20-30 secs… i tried xxkpn then, but faced the same problem… i was earlier on xxkph and wi fi was working fine so i downgraded to kph, but the wifi problem persisted… will downgrading to ddkb2 solve my wifi issue? my phone was ddkb2 out of the box… if it wouldn’t solve the problem, then i see no point in downgrading… please advice what to do
yes, you will be able to update!
