If you are on Verizon and using the Motorola’s affordable modular smartphone, Moto Z Play Droid in the U.S, then your device might soon get the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update. The company has started rolling the Nougat update with the software version NDNS25.137-24-1-2. The device was launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. The Moto G4 & G4 Plus are the very first Moto devices to taste the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. In India, the Moto Z Play users received the Nougat update just last month with the software version NPN25.137-15-2.
A few days back, the Canadian carrier, Rogers also started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for their Moto Z Play smartphones in Canada. It will take a couple of days to reach the Moto Z Play Droid smartphones. Though the users will be notified about the new OTA update via notification, they can also manually check for the newer update by going to Settings > About Phone > System updates. Apart from the Moto-specific features, this new update brings new landscape view when the device is connected to a Moto Mod.
To successfully install the new OTA update, the device needs to be fully charged or at least 50% charging. The latest features from the Android 7.0 Nougat like split-screen multitasking (multi-window mode), faster app switching, customizable quick settings, bundled notifications, and other will also be included in this new OTA update.We can also see the improved settings navigation that has refreshingly new UI, a simple swipe from left to right anywhere in the settings brings the side panel for quick access to Settings.
With the new Nougat update, the user also gets almost 1500 newer emojis to express better than words. The built-in data saver can restrict the mobile data usage for specific apps or the background usage. While the Doze mode is introduced with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it now comes with even better optimizations to offer longer battery life. The device sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution and Gorilla Glass protection on top. It is powered by 2GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.
It can be further expanded via MicroSD card slot up to additional 2TB. There is a 16MP camera on the rear and a 5MP selfie camera on the front. It is backed by a 3,510mAh battery that can give 33 hours of usage time and supports TurboPower fast charging technology. The user can add the specific Moto Mods for offering a better experience in specific areas like camera, battery life, or sound output. It is currently retailing for an upfront cost of $408.
