Alcatel has pumped itself up again during the MWC 2013, as it has launched a few new smartphones, and apart from the well-in-budget Alcatel One Touch Star smartphone, we finally saw some high-end well appreciable device from Alcatel, which although doesn’t have everything perfect in itself. It’s the Alcatel One Touch Idol X, a 5-inch Android smartphone with a 1080p edge-to-edge display, and the latest of Android OS which is Android 4.2.1, which has been pretty modified by the company.
Comparable to the original Droid Razr from Motorola, the One Touch Idol X has got a thickness of just 7.1mm, and the thin bezel makes this phone look smaller than what a standard 5-inch smartphone appears to be with the large bezel and the thickness. According to Alcatel, the phone is going to have different versions around the world, and a few specifications would depend on the location where it would be launched. It can have either an 8-megapixel or a 13-megapixel camera depending on the market, and similarly there could be a Single SIM version and a Dual SIM one too.
The One Touch Idol X’s interface is quite different from the stock OS, as the icons are modified and there are a few pre-installed apps and this makes it a different one from the ones in standard Android phones with an unmodified interface. Internally, there’s a powering from 1.2GHz Quad-core CPU but this isn’t officially specified. Storage wise, the 16GB of internal storage would seem enough but there is an option to increase it with the MicroSD card.
This is coming in three color options, i.e. the Blue, Yellow and Red colors, and we notice a front camera too apart from the variable rear camera. The phone has got all the standard connectivity options, but does lack the 4G LTE connectivity, which indicates that Alcatel has not looked to focus on the US market for launching this device, which might come internationally by the second half of the year.
Just like we were complaining about the battery of the One Touch Star, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X too doesn’t have a real strong battery, as you would need to have something very much better than the 2000 mAh battery when the handset has got a 1080p display, and a Quad-core chipset.
