Country’s second largest smartphone maker Micromax announced its new smartphone, the Canvas Express yesterday. Last month, Micromax had unveiled a new range of devices under ‘Yu’ brand, focussed on the fast growing segment of tech enthusiasts. A subsidiary of Micromax, Yu Televentures, has partnered Cyanogen to offer a customised user experience to end users, and will work with various companies to build a layer of services into the operating system itself.The first handset will be launched in December, though details of the device and pricing were not disclosed.
The Micromax Canvas Express features a 4.5-inch FWVGA display with 480×854 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad- display core (unspecified) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The Micromax Canvas Express runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box and offers dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) functionality.
On camera front, Micromax Canvas Express has a 5-megapixel resolution and flash and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The internal storage on the Canvas Express is not yet mentioned, though it can be expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB).
The device’s connectivity options are also not mentioned. A 1950mAh battery backs the Canvas Express. Micromax also announced Aircel users can avail 500MB of free mobile Internet data per month for the first six months on their Canvas Express smartphones.
The Canvas Express also features preloaded apps like HotKnot (MediaTek’s NFC-like solution) and Smart Wake. With the former, users can tap screen-to-screen for sharing images, videos, music and browsing URLs. With Smart Wake, the Canvas Express users can open apps with customised gestures directly from the lock screen.
The Micromax Canvas priced at Rs. 6,999. The smartphone will be exclusively available on Flipkart starting December 8.With these features, the new Micromax Canvas Express A99 compete with Motorola Moto E, Android One series devices, Asus Zenfone 4 series, and Huawei Honor Holly.
