Blackphone with Android-based PrivatOS Announced, launching at MWC 2014 – Details

Silent Circle, the global encrypted communications service from Washington D.C., and Geeksphone, the Spanish Android smartphone maker has announced their first Switzerland based joint venture, when they announced Geeksphone, the first smartphone with the PrivatOS – based on the Android operating system. This, according to the company, is the World’s first smartphone which is going to provide the users maximum privacy and controls directly in their hands.

The Blackphone is a carrier- and vendor-independent smartphone providing the individuals and organizations an option to do quite a lot of stuff with full privacy and security.

Phil Zimmermann, creator of Pretty Good Privacy said:
“I have spent my whole career working towards the launch of secure telephony products,” said Zimmermann. “Blackphone provides users with everything they need to ensure privacy and control of their communications, along with all the other high-end smartphone features they have come to expect.”

The features of the Blackphone includes:

  • Making and receiving the phone calls in a secured way
  • Exchange secure texts
  • Transfer and store files securely
  • Video chat without compromising user privacy on the device
  • Anonymize your activity through a VPN

There are no other details given by the company about the actual specifications, and those won’t really be important when the smartphone provides all the security options to the users, especially the business professionals who wish to have full privacy and security to every activity they do on the device. The phone is said to be launched and is going to be available for pre-order from the Mobile World Congress 2014 event in Barcelona, Spain beginning from February 24th 2014.
