Earliet: July 3, 2015, 12:25 : Google and Lava teamed up to launch a new Android One smartphone all in a new avatar. This time Google might not restrict the OEM’s on design and features of the device. According to a report from a media publication, the smartphone will be launched on 14th July in Delhi, India with a price tag of Rs. 12,000. The pricing is almost double than the first batch of Android One devices.
The device is developed in collaboration on hardware and software with Lava and Mediatek. It comes with a 5-inch display powered by a Mediatek chipset with 2GB of RAM. The first batch of devices came equipped with Mediatek MT6582 quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. We can say that the new device is a serious upgrade from what we seen on the older Android One devices.
Google had made tweaks to the OS, so as to collaborate deeply with the specifications of the device. Lava wants to make the device as an affordable Nexus device by releasing the software and security updates frequently. Google has tied-up with 20 manufacturers to make the Android One devices available in seven countries.
The first batch of devices faced a tougher competition from the brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo and few others that offered better specifications. During the launch of Android One devices last year, Google said that these devices will receive the latest updates from the company itself for the next two years. Recently they also received the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.
Unlike other OEM’s Lava had the control of the hardware and software over this upcoming device, which may result in the better user experience. Google also wants to sell the devices offline as well as online and expected to spend around $10-15 million on the marketing and promotions of the Android One platform.
