All about Sundar Pichai’s New Responsibilities at Google – Complete Details

Google’s Sundar Pichai is the new BIG name in Google and Google seems to have made some big ticket changes in Google Inc. which puts more in the plate of Sundar Pichai. Previously, Sundar Pichai was only responsible for overseeing the Chrome and Android division, but now as per latest internal memo Sundar will also lead other products which includes search, maps, Google+, commerce, research, plus ads and infrastructure. All the senior executives who were previously reporting to Larry Page will now be reporting to Sundar. Since YouTube is a separate standalone operation at this point, Pichai won’t be a middleman between CEO Susan Wojcicki and Page as she will directly be reporting to Google’s top boss.  Wojcicki, of course, is one of Google’s top veteran managers, with the company having been started in her garage.

Sundar

This is yet another added responsibility/ promotion for Sundar as he has been adding to key businesses of Google for years now. The whole ecosystem has not being designed to make him heir apparent to Larry Page. From start, Pichai managed Chrome – the OS, notebook lineup and browser and was given an additional portfolio of Google Apps which Dave Girouard left to do a startup and when Andy Rubin stepped down as the longtime leader in March 2013, Pichai was given the responsibility of Android too.

Quite a while back, twitter tried to recruit Sundar for a key product role and his name was also raised for a new CEO of Microsoft earlier. Just to brief about Sundar, Sundar was born in Chennai in 1972 and joined Google in 2004. He worked at Applied Materials and also at McKinsey & Co. and attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He is now the SVP of all Google products and sources say that the title is not changing anytime soon due to recent developments.
