How to Install TWRP based Recovery in LG G4 Android Phone – Guide

LG G4, the flagship android device from LG was just announced in most of the countries recently and for all those who have already bought this fantastic device can now make the most by unlocking the bootloader / rooting the device. Once bootloader unlock, users can also install rich custom rom firmwares which further enhances the overall experience to the next level. After checking out the quick list of pre requisites, we will move towards the detailed guide which will help you update the device with the TWRP recovery.

Quick Pre Requisites:

Al the data in your LG G4 Android device should be backed up with the help of below mentioned steps manually and not with the LG PC Sync.
Bootloader in your LG G4 should be unlocked and also be noted that once the bootloader is unlocked, the device warranty will get void.

Battery left in your device should be more than 50% and also this process of TWRP recovery is only valid for H815 variant which can be checked from Settings > About Phone path.

Make sure that ADB is setup in your computer and it should have Full USB Read/ Write access.

Procedure to Install TWRP Recovery in LG G4:

Download TWRP touch recovery zip file in your computer and place the same in the folder android-sdk-windows\platform-tools.
Connect your LG G4 with the computer using original USB cable.

Navigate to the path android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory and open command prompt by pressing Shift Key + Right Click and click on command prompt option to open the same.

In command prompt, enter the below mentioned command to enter LG G4 in the bootloader mode;

adb reboot bootloader

Now, LG G4 will be entered in the fastboot mode. LG G4 can also be entered manually in the fastboot mode. Turn Off your LG G4 and turn it ON by pressing the Volume Down + Power button simultaneously.

In fastboot mode, enter the below mentioned command in the command prompt window to flash the TWRP touch based recovery in your device;

fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-h815.img

Now, once the recovery is installed, you need to select “Enter Recovery Mode” option from the fastboot menu.
