How to Manual Update Nexus 10 with Official KitKat 4.4 KRT16S – Guide

Jump up to the joy as Kit Kat is not only delicious as it also ropes in the much needed stability with a slight kick of new features. So, in the latest for all Nexus 10 users, here comes an all new release of Kit Kat which promises to fix the bugs which some users were facing. Though we don’t have the exact list of bugs which got addressed, you can apply this update manually. All thanks to the ADB Side load functionality in Android which allows you to install the official firmwares without waiting for the OTA update. This new OTA update is dubbed as KRT16S.

What you Need to Do Before Updating?

  • Get ready with all the below mentioned things;
  • Create a backup of all your data manually with the help of below mentioned steps. Make sure that you are not missing this step or else you may lose all the data after applying the update. Though, this method won’t erase your data and apps installed, its recommended to create the backup of all your data.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – 
Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – 
Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

  • Make sure that your Battery charge is left with a minimum of 50%. Also, make sure that the USB Debugging is enabled from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging in your device.

Procedure to Update Nexus 10 with Incremental Kitkat 4.4 Update:

  • Connect your Nexus 10 device to the computer with the original USB cable and install all the required USB drivers if prompted.
  • Now, head over to the Settings > About Phone > Click on the Build Number 7 times or till you see the message as “You are now a developer” appears. Exit from the About Phone and scroll over to “Developer Options” settings to enable the USB Debugging.
  • Connect your tablet to your computer and a warning should pop up with the computers unique RSA number asking if you want to connect to the computer. Click “Always connect to computer” and accept. Then disconnect the USB cable from the computer. Now turn off your device.
  • Now in your computer, Download the Kit Kat 4.4 Zip file (KRT16S from JWR66Y | KRT16S from KRT16O) if you missed in the above step and place the same in the “Platform-tools” of your Android SDK Folder. Rename the firmware zip file as “KitKat”.
  • In your tablet, turn Off your tablet and press Volume Down button & power ON the device to enter the device in Bootloader mode.
  • Click the volume up button until you see the words “Recovery mode”. Press the power button to accept. It will show the Google logo and then you’ll be greeted by an Android with an exclamation mark and the words “no command written”. With the help of micro USB Cable, connect the device to the computer.
  • Hold Power button first and then hold the Volume Up while still holding down the Power button. With the help of Volume Down button, go down to select “apply update from ADB” and hit the power button to accept.
  • Open command prompt in your computer to enter the below mentioned command;

“adb sideload Android KitKat.zip”

  • Now, sit back, relax till the device is updated with the latest version of Kit Kat 4.4 Android firmware. It will take around 4 -5 minutes for applying the update. Once the update is done, the device will be rebooted automatically.

Note: If at all your Nexus 10 gets in the boot loop sequence then you need to turn off the device and then reapply the update from the start. To turn off you can long press the power button.

  • You can check the firmware update from the path “Settings > About Device > Firmware Version” where the firmware update version will be mentioned.
