Motorola Defy smartphone can now be easily updated with the latest Custom ROM firmware of Pikachu which comes with a huge feature list. Please note that this update is not an Official firmware update released by Motorola and is a custom ROM firmware developed by the third party developer. Though this firmware update will have some bugs, the coming bugs will be fixed. There are known bugs about 3D gallery and in torch based lock screen. Unfortunately, there is no way as of now on by when there will be an Official ICS Android 4.0 firmware.

All the data present in your device should be backed up manually. With the help of below mentioned steps, you can easily back up. Please note that you should not use PC Suite to back up the same.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Ensure that the minimum battery charge left is 60% so as to ensure that it doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update. Also, enable USB Debugging mode in your phone. Disable / Uninstall all the security apps in your device as these may interrupt the process of firmware update. (Phone should be disconnected from computer while enabling the USB Debugging Mode).
Rooting your device is must, so before proceeding you need to ensure that you are on the Rooted firmware. You can check whether your device is rooted or not with an App called “Root Checker” which can be downloaded from the PLAY Store. If your device is not rooted, then this firmware can’t be updated in your device.
