Samsung has been in the rumor mills for a while now about the launch of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. As confirmed earlier, today the brand has officially unpacked the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones at the MWC 2016 event in Barcelona. These are the most powerful smartphones launched by Samsung to date and are true flagship devices in every sense.
Talking about the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch (2560×1440 pixels) 2K Super AMOLED display offering a pixel density of 577ppi while the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge flaunts a slightly larger 5.5-inch (2560×1440 pixels) QHD Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 534ppi. Both the smartphones feature an Always-on display that shows the notifications and useful information even when the screen is turned off. Additionally, like Galaxy S6 Edge, the Galaxy S7 Edge also sports an Edge screen for quick access to various apps.
The smartphones come powered by all-new Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz clubbed with Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of onboard storage. In some markets, the devices will pack 64-bit Samsung’s Exynos 8890 octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz. The smartphones also include a microSD card slot for further expansion of memory upto 200GB that was missing in the earlier launched Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The devices support dual sim dual standby and run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
On the photographic section, the smartphones feature a 12MP primary camera with world’s first Dual Pixel sensor that can focus on the objects blazingly fast as all the pixels are used for focusing on the objects, f/1.7 aperture and dual-tone LED flash for stunning captures even in low-light conditions. On the front, the smartphones have a 5MP snapper with a f/1.7 aperture for video chats and perfect selfie images. Connectivity options on the devices include 4G-LTE, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and a microUSB 2.0 port.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a beautiful metal and glass design. Both the smartphones have curved back, rounded edges to offer better grip to hold the device. The smartphones are also iP68 certified making them water and dust resistant. The devices also include a fingerprint sensor integrated into the physical home button for enhanced security and support for Samsung Pay virtual payments.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge comes backed by 3000mAh and 3600mAh battery respectively and also supports fast charging and wireless charging. The smartphones will be available in colors Silver, Gold, White, and Black and are priced at Eur 569 and Eur 639 in Europe. The smartphones will be launched at similar pricing in other parts of the world as well. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are expected to go on sale on March 11 while the company has started taking the pre-orders in selected markets.
