How to Root, Enable SDE & Update Archos G9 Tablet with 4.0.6 Firmware

Procedure to Root, Enable SDE and Optimize Archos G9 Tablet:
Procedure to Root:

  • Ensuring that you have installed the ADB drivers and then enter into the command prompt. You can enter command prompt by pressing the “Win + R”, enter “cmd” and press enter in your Windows PC.
  • After this, connect your Archos G9 tablet to computer with the help of original USB cable and once its connected, you need to enter the below mentioned command,

adb devices

  • Now, you can see that your device will be listed in the command prompt indicating that it’s successfully detected in the computer.
  • Download the root hack zip from here to your computer and then extract the same. Now, from the extracted files, you need to double click on the rootdevice.cmd to open the same and press any key to start the process. So, that’s it you have now successfully rooted the device.

Procedure to Enable SDE:

  • Now, assuming that the device is rooted successfully, you now need to download the Zip Package and extract the same.
  • Connect your Archos G9 tablet from here to your computer and enter the below mentioned command in the command prompt.

adb shell

rm /data/local.prop

  • Please note that if the above code doesn’t work or doesn’t do anything, it is okay, move on with the rest of the guide. SDE should now be enabled, make sure buy turning off your device, then once it’s off.
  • Now, hold power + volume down until the Archos logo appears and a recovery menu appears and then press Volume Up + Down and power to select Recovery Menu > Developer Edition menu. Now, in your device if you get the developer edition menu, you have correctly enabled the SDE.

Procedure to Update Archos G9 with ICS 4.0.6 Firmware:

  • Up next, download the Archos G9 ICS 4.0.6 Firmware Package from here to your computer. Power Off the device and boot the device in the recovery mode by holding the volume rocker down and pressing the power button simultaneously.
  • Once in recovery, select “Format System”, then “Reformat Device…” (use the volume up/down to change selection, power button to select). As soon as its formatted, formatted, return to recovery using the same method above, this time select “Update Firmware”, return to recovery using the same method above, this time select “Update Firmware” option.
  • Just in case if the device is disconnected, connect the same to the computer and then a new drive should appear in “My Computer”, copy firmware_archos_it4.aos to this device.
  • As soon as the file transfer is updated, press the power button on your device, keep it plugged in while it is updating. Once it’s updated, the device will restart and there you go, you have now successfully the device.

Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start.
