How to Root SONY Xperia S LT26i on Official ICS 6.1.A.0.452 Firmware

Xperia S LogoSONY Xperia S smartphone which you have recently updated with the latest ICS Android 4.0 6.1.A.0.452 firmware can now be easily rooted. Please note that once you root the device, you can then easily install the custom ROM firmwares and you can install the apps which need the root access. Also ensure that you are on the 6.1.A.0.452 firmware which you can check the same from the path “Settings > About Phone”.

Rooting Information: Rooting your Xperia S device will void the warranty, the only way with which you can revoke the root access is by re applying the update of 6.1.A.0.452.

Please note that though there is no probability of data loss or corruption, you can back up the data with the help of below mentioned steps so that just in case if the data loss

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

You need to ensure that your PC has the ADMIN rights and also open USB ports so that the data can be copied in your device. Also, disable all the security suites installed in your phone as these tools tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.

ADB should be installed in your computer as it’s a must for rooting your device. Without installing ADB you cannot root your device. Also, this rooting process only works for the devices which are on the latest version of ICS.

Procedure to Root SONY Xperia S on Latest ICS 6.1.A.0.452 ICS Firmware:

  • Download Nazomi Recovery Image, Super User from here to your computer and place the same in your device. Please note that once you download these two files, you now need to place the same in the “tools” or “platform-tools” folder in your computer.
  • Connect your phone to the computer with the help of original USB cable, download Kernel from here to your computer and place the same in the internal memory of the device.
  • Open the command prompt in which you need to enter the below mentioned command.

fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img

  • Now, boot the device in the recovery mode and flash the Super user from SD Card and flash the kernel. Open the FTF file with 7Zip or similar compress-program and extract kernel.sin, or download from attachment. Up next enter the below mentioned command,

fastboot flash boot kernel.sin

Note: Just in a rare case if the device is not updated and it gets into the boot loop mode, you need to again clear the cache from the recovery mode and retry the whole process from the start.
