How to Turn Off Camera Shutter Sound on Android Phones

When you are using a camera the shutter sound is always automatically played when you take a snap or record a video. When you are in open space or in crowd it doesn’t create any problem but when you are in place like meeting, hospital where maintaining calm atmosphere is required priority the shutter sound while using camera looks odd. You might know that you can change the camera shutter sound but are there ways to turn it OFF i.e., take photos without shutter sound?

Are you here in search on how to turn off the shutter sound? You will be buzzed around with the questions like can we turn off the camera shutter sound? I always go with always no shutter sound and there are two ways by which you can turn off your camera sound when you snap a picture.

There are three methods by which you can turn off the camera shutter sound

  • Put your phone in Silent Mode
  • Use Uva Silent Widget Camera Android App
  • Installing CyanogenMod 7.1.0

Put your phone in Silent Mode

By keeping the incoming calls ring volume to zero you can keep your phone in silent and thereby there will be no sound when you take a snap or record a video. This is the easiest way by which you can turn off the shutter sound. But mind you that you will not be notified of any incoming calls or any SMS or email that you receive. i.e., to stop shutter sound you need to put your phone in silent mode.

Using Uva Silent Widget Camera Application

By using the Uva Silent Widget Camera Android application you can take picture in silent using the widget function. This is quite better method than putting up your phone in silent mode.

Installing CyanogenMod 7.1.0

By installing a update to Cyanogen Mod 7 you can easily turn off the camera click sound. This update updates the OGGs file present in your Android phone system files and overwrites them to disable the sound by default.

Mute Shutter Sound

After installing CyanogenMod 7.1.0 you need to reflash the ROM for every update. Once the CyanogenMod 7.1.0 up and installed on your rooted phone, you need to go through the Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Sound and then select Mute camera shutter.

You get the warning, click on OK to proceed.

Quite easy and simple

just download android camspy from google play… I could have posted the direct link but its easy to fine… just search for “camspy” on google play site.. have been using for 2 weeks now.. quite satisfactory and works.. though I have suggested one more feature to the developer.. will give it 5 stars if the developer comes up with that feature… however the basic app is awesome as well

  • JulyCamera

Actually you can use my app to take picture silently, and you do not need to root your phone or do any other action. Try to search JulyCamera in Android Market or access to https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=JulyCamera find more detail of this app. And any review and comments are welcome.
