This is the easiest way by which you can turn off the shutter sound. But mind you that you will not be notified of any incoming calls or any SMS or email that you receive. i.e., to stop shutter sound you need to put your phone in silent mode.
Using Uva Silent Widget Camera Application
By using the Uva Silent Widget Camera Android application you can take picture in silent using the widget function. This is quite better method than putting up your phone in silent mode.
Installing CyanogenMod 7.1.0
By installing a update to Cyanogen Mod 7 you can easily turn off the camera click sound. This update updates the OGGs file present in your Android phone system files and overwrites them to disable the sound by default.
After installing CyanogenMod 7.1.0 you need to reflash the ROM for every update. Once the CyanogenMod 7.1.0 up and installed on your rooted phone, you need to go through the Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Sound and then select Mute camera shutter.
You get the warning, click on OK to proceed.
