Google Maps Offline mode and Save to SDCard feature goes public

Google relieves our worries with its new update to its Google Maps app. Now the app is getting “Wi-Fi only Mode” for users having limited data pack in their devices and the option to save the local mapping data to your SD card to view it in offline mode later. Earlier these services were being offered to users with a beta version of Google Maps, but now it will be available for all the users. Google as posted on the official Google Maps blog, explains this with three scenarios, first two I have already mentioned above and the third is a service of suggesting cab service to users based on how far a cab is at the time of booking which is limited to few countries now but we expect this will come to everywhere gradually.

Wi-Fi only mode helps you to use the map service when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network saving the limited amount of data you have in your account. So changing to this mode also help you use the already saved offline map to access it without using the limited data plan connection. And by accessing offline data, you also get to save the battery life.

If a user has a low-end smartphone which only have 4 GB or 8 GB internal storage, then this feature can help to a great deal saving mapping data on the MicroSD card. So any user having a smartphone which supports a MicroSD card can now use it to save offline areas in it which they can later access it on Offline Mode.

And finally as mentioned in the blog, users can now book cabs which can reach first to avail the service. In the map one can see the time, a different cab would take to reach to a user. Based on that data, users can choose the cab which is near or can reach first to pick the users.
If you haven’t got the update, wait for few days. It will be rolled out gradually based on your location. And if you want to try this out now, go to this page to download the apk file.
