DisplayMate once again touts that the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 has the best display ever with 1,048 nits breaking the previous record of Samsung Galaxy S7 which had 855 nits. DisplayMate Technologies Corp is a company which tests display and image qualities of various display devices, e.g. smartphones, projectors, different types of monitors including TVs, etc.
DisplayMate tests Samsung devices two times every year to test the display of latest Samsung Galaxy smartphones before the release. As per DisplayMate, Samsung’s displays are the best in the market, and the display quality gets better with each new device they produce. They also say that they have hit a milestone with the Note 7 achieving more than 1,000 nits of brightness. The automatic display mode in Samsung’s devices gives better brightness compared to other phones, and even in outside under the sun the display’s brightness is far better than the other devices, which means one can work on the device perfectly under the sun. Even the Note 7 has considerably higher contrast rating, and it has only 4.6% reflectance, which is the lowest according to DisplayMate.
Even in manual mode, the brightness of Samsung turns out to be the best. If you manually set the brightness level to the highest, the Note 7 can reach up to 639 nits compared to only 440 nits in the Galaxy S7. So the automatic mode gives much higher brightness at any conditions and because of the two ambient light sensors, one at the front side and another at back side attached to it, it acts smartly adapting the external light conditions. While other phones have just one sensor at the front, usually interfere your face reflecting the light.
