Gionee is known for launching higher battery capacity smartphones in its Marathon series. The brand released Marathon M4 smartphone in India with massive 5000mAh battery back in August. Today, the company has officially launched a new device in its Marathon series called as Marathon M5 in India. The Marathon M5 is the successor of the Marathon M4, and it boasts an enormous 6020mAh capacity battery. The smartphone available in Black, Gold, and White color variants is priced at Rs. 17,999 and will go on sale exclusively online via Flipkart.
Regarding specifications, the Marathon M5 flaunts a 5.5-inch (720×1280 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it. Under the hood, is the MediaTek MT6535 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage that can be further expanded using a microSD card slot upto 128GB.
The main selling point of the device is massive 6020mAh battery it packs. It comes with an unusual dual battery setup, and the company claims that the smartphone can last upto two days on heavy usage and upto four days on mixed usage. It also comes with an extreme mode that allows the smartphone to last upto 62 hours on a 5% battery charge. The smartphone also supports fast charging and can act as a power bank to charge other devices.
On the photography front, the smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front snapper to capture crisp selfie images. The dual sim supported smartphone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based Amigo OS 3.0 out of the box. Even with these specifications and battery the handset measures just 8.5mm thick and weighs 213 grams. Connectivity options on the device include 4G-LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS and microUSB port.
