The IFA event in Berlin already kicks off, with Acer announcing a series of devices ranging from smartphones to huge 24-inch devices, many with the Android OS. The latest launch from them is the Acer Iconia A3, a 10.1 inch Android tablet which is to be available from October 2013, and would be having both Wi-Fi and 3G versions.
The IPS 10.1 inch panel has got a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and the company boasts about the inclusion of Dolby Digital Plus which is made to provide the virtualized 5.1-channel surround experience over headphones. Internally, the Iconia A3 has got a Quad-core Cortex A7 processor which clocks at 1.2 GHz speed. Depending on the need, one can choose to have a 16GB or a 32GB version of the tablet, the storage of which can be expanded using the MicroSD card.
The company has focused largely on the music category where apart from the stereo surround sound experience, the Dolby Digital Plus reduces the background noise, dialogue volume boost and consistent volume levels without having different levels in different apps. The ergonomic placement of the speakers on both the sides does it better in providing a surround sound.
The WXGA display with the 1280×800 pixels resolution gives wide viewing angles, and the 16:10 aspect ratio helps in watching videos and playing games in full landscape mode. Running on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, the Iconia A3 comes with the intuitive features such as the Intellispin, WakeApp and lot more. There’s a 5-megapixel rear camera that takes full resolution videos, and at the same time can allow the users to capture photos too. The camera does immersive 360° pictures and wide angle shots.
The Iconia A3 has got a weight of around 600gm, and a thickness of 10.15mm, and it is available in options based on the storage and the connectivity, where the pricing is as follows:
- Acer Iconia A3 Wi-Fi pricing: €249
- Acer Iconia A3 Wi-Fi + 3G pricing: €299
These both are the starting prices for the 16GB versions, and we are yet to confirm the prices for the ones with a better storage. With the given pricing, Acer has done an excellent launch but the screen resolution could hold a major disadvantage? we can see when the other tablet devices are launched by different brands to compete this at the IFA 2013.
