Archos had announced about working on the Android tablet which would revolutionize the gaming in Android tablets, and it was the GamePad which they were talking about, and this tablet has been finally launched by the company in the UK, with a design that looks just like a palm-top gaming device, but being powered by the Android OS. The physical buttons are made just like that of a gaming device, with the various gaming keys on the either side of the display, and the design is just like the PSP Vita handheld gaming device.
Archos hasn’t limited the controls to just the touch, and this would give the users a feel of using a gaming console in their hands, and the 7-inch display of its is comfortable enough for gaming and taking it along anywhere. The best news for everyone though, is that the Archos GamePad is finally available for purchase in Europe right now, and the North American places would be getting a chance to buy it in the 1st quarter of 2013.
The Gamepad has got the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and the 7 inch display has got a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The internal storage available in the Archos Gamepad, is 8GB and it is not limited, as you can use a MicroSD card to expand the memory by about 64GB. This Android Games Console has got an Archos patented mapping tool with a full Android OS giving an experience of an Android tablet too. It is just 10 mm in thickness and weighs around 330 gm, and it combines the GamePad’s 14 physical buttons and dual analog thumb-sticks to provide a full gaming experience along with the tablet experience, serving a dual purpose.
One of the important aspects for any device that supports heavy gaming, is the battery but Archos hasn’t mentioned anything about the battery capacity and the battery life. Below are the specifications of the GamePad mentioned by Archos:
- Display – 7 inch
- Screen resolution – 1024 x 600 pixels

According to Henri Crohas, the CEO and Founder of Archos, Android users spend around 9 hours per month playing games on their Android devices but still aren’t much satisfied, blaming the touch experience being not much helpful for the gaming. Archos would be working more on the gaming aspect more and make better devices in the coming time, for those who wanted a better gaming experience in the tablet devices.
In the European market, the Archos GamePad is available for the price of 149.99€ but there is no confirmation about the pricing in the American market, where the device would be seen in the next quarter.
